Warner Bros to build 10 Tumbler replicas from Dark Knight trilogy, each priced from RM13m

For die-hard Batman fans, especially those who can’t get enough of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, this is your chance to own your very own Tumbler!

Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products (WBDGCP) has announced that it will be building 10 full-scale replicas of the Tumbler, which will be available for purchase.

What’s interesting is that these machines can be ordered through a luxury goods company known as Wayne Enterprises Experience. Yes, it’s a real company operated by Relevance International in collaboration with WBDGCP.

As mentioned, the Tumbler is a full-scale replica, which means it can indeed be driven, although you may want to refrain from taking it to the shops or dropping the kids off at school, as technically it isn’t road-legal.

The Tumbler features a tubular chassis made from aeronautical-grade steel, while each body panel is crafted from a combination of Kevlar, carbon fibre, fibreglass, and metal sheets.

As you can see, it closely resembles the real Tumbler, complete with a jet exhaust at the back. However, it’s important to note that this replica won’t be spitting fire like it so often does in the films.

The Tumbler is powered by an LS3 6.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine that produces an impressive 525 hp and 659 Nm of torque, complemented by a GM 4L85E automatic transmission operable via paddle shifters.

Weighing in at around 2.5 tonnes, the Caped Crusader’s chariot may seem hefty, but it’s lightweight compared to the Cybertruck, which tips the scales at approximately three tonnes.

Inside, Warner Bros. has revealed it will feature two seats, five-point harnesses, and several screens. Customers will also have the option to customise some parts of the interior to their liking.

So, how much will the Tumbler set you back? As one might expect, a unique vehicle like this doesn’t come cheap. You’ll need to be Bruce Wayne rich, as each unit is priced at a staggering $2,990,000 (approximately RM13 million).

NGV to be discontinued from July 2025 – Anthony Loke

Transport Minister Anthony Loke has announced that natural gas vehicles (NGV) will no longer be allowed to be registered or licensed for use on public roads from July 1, 2025.

According to Loke, the decision was made during a Cabinet meeting after taking into consideration the safety of NGVs and other road users.

In this regard, Petronas will also gradually terminate NGV retail supply.

Loke explained in a statement that the peak period for the modification and installation of NGV vehicle kits was between 1995 and 2014.

“This period indicates that all affected vehicles today are in the final phase of the lifespan of NGV tanks and need to be replaced.

“These NGV tanks have a safe usage period limit of approximately 15 years, and if not replaced, they are not safe for use and may fail at any time, potentially causing injury, death, and serious property damage,” he said.

To assist NGV vehicle owners in transitioning to alternative fuels, PETRONAS NGV Sdn Bhd (PNGV) has initiated a NGV Vehicle Transition Assistance Programme for the targeted groups affected, namely NGV taxi drivers, single fuel vehicle owners, and dual fuel NGV owners.

The Transition Assistance Programme consists of three packages:

  • Transition Assistance Package for Eligible NGV Taxi Drivers: Each eligible registered driver will receive an e-voucher of RM3,000, which will be provided through the Setel app as a one-off payment.
  • NGV Kit Removal Package: For tanks from modified vehicles (dual fuel), including NGV taxis. All costs will be fully covered and can only be done at registered workshops.
  • Transition Assistance Package for Single Fuel NGV Vehicles: This package offers a one-off payment to eligible vehicle owners, based on the current value of the vehicle determined by an independent valuator.

Applications to check eligibility and obtain the transition package are open starting today at www.peralihanngv.com.

Denza D9 luxury MPV confirmed for Malaysia, to launch in Q1 2025

Back in October, BYD’s premium sub-brand Denza has been confirmed to be entering the Malaysian market, with Sime Darby Auto Imports as the official importer and BYD Malaysia as the official distributor.

The first model to be offered will be the Denza D9, which is expected to arrive in the local market some time in the first quarter of 2025. It will be pitted against the likes of the Zeekr 009, Maxus Mifa 9, and the popular Toyota Alphard/Vellfire duo.

Specifications for the Malaysian market are yet to be announced, but we can confirm that BYD Malaysia will introduce the battery electric vehicle (BEV) version, as it is currently the only version available in right-hand drive.

In China, in addition to the BEV variant, the D9 is also available in a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version featuring a 1.5-litre engine.

For the BEV, there are two powertrain configurations: front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). The former features a single electric motor that produces 313 PS (280 kW) and 360 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds.

Meanwhile, the latter, with its twin-motor setup, offers a healthy 374 PS (275 kW) and 470 Nm, enabling a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 6.9 seconds.

Regardless the variant, the D9 is equipped with a 103 kWh LFP battery, providing a WLTP range of 520 km for the FWD and 480 km for the AWD.

In terms of size, the D9 measures 5,250 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, 1,920 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3,110 mm. This makes it longer than the Zeekr 009, although its wheelbase is 95 mm shorter than its closest competitor.

The electric MPV can accommodate up to seven adult passengers (each 180 cm tall), thanks to a 2-2-3 seating configuration featuring sliding captain’s seats in the second row.

Its cargo space is big enough to hold seven 20-inch luggage cases and seven business backpacks.

In keeping with its status as a premium MPV, the D9 boasts a range of luxury features such as Nappa leather upholstery, ventilation and heating functions, massage functions, a panoramic glass roof, and a 7.5-litre fridge.

For the infotainment system, there is a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a Dynaudio sound system with 14 speakers, and three 50W wireless chargers, to name a few.

Pricing for the Malaysian market has yet to be announced. For reference, the D9 BEV is priced between 379,800 yuan and 469,800 yuan (approximately RM233,648 to RM289,015) in its home country.

What is WLTP, NEDC and CLTC?

When talking about electric vehicles (EVs), there are three acronyms that you are likely to encounter: WLTP, NEDC, and CLTC.

What do these three acronyms mean?

For your information, these acronyms refer to testing standards used to calculate the range of EVs.

What are the differences between WLTP, NEDC, and CLTC? Let’s break it down one by one.

WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure)

The WLTP system was introduced in 2017 to replace the NEDC testing method. It implemented new procedures designed to test vehicles under more realistic conditions, resulting in outcomes that are closer to real-world driving.

WLTP takes into account several factors, including varying driving speeds, acceleration rates, and temperature. One of the main differences between WLTP and NEDC is that WLTP involves a longer driving cycle, a wider speed range (47-132 km/h), and the use of electronics such as air conditioning, radios, and so on.

This makes WLTP more accurate compared to NEDC, which tends to overestimate the range by 25% to 30%.

NEDC (New European Driving Cycle)

The NEDC was introduced in the early 1980s, with its last update occurring in 1997. Indeed, this testing method is outdated and considered obsolete. It is also regarded as inaccurate, as data is collected under ideal laboratory conditions.

It comprises two parts. The first part, lasting 13 minutes, simulates stop-and-go driving in urban areas. The second part involves extra-urban driving at a maximum speed of 120 km/h.

Due to the fact that NEDC tests are conducted at lower speeds and do not factor in elements such as air conditioning and uphill driving, many users find that the NEDC range is higher than what they experience in real-world situations.

CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle)

The CLTC was developed by the China Automotive Technology and Research Centre (CATARC) to replace European testing procedures. It is designed based on driving habits in China and the country’s conditions, and it often yields a more optimistic range.

It consists of three phases of testing: slow, moderate, and fast driving. The testing process lasts for 30 minutes, covering a total distance of 14.5 km.

There are several differences between WLTP and CLTC. One notable distinction is that the duration of driving in the CLTC test is reportedly twice as long as in WLTP. Furthermore, the CLTC test cycle includes more stops, while its maximum speed is also lower, at 114 km/h.

7th gen Ducati Panigale V4 now in Malaysia – RM182,900

The seventh-generation Ducati Panigale V4, which was first introduced at the World Ducati Week event in Misano, Italy, last July, has now arrived in the Malaysian market.

Featuring a variety of updates encompassing cosmetic, performance, and technical aspects, the Panigale V4 is priced at RM182,900.

Meanwhile, the full-colour TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity now includes turn-by-turn navigation and full phone functionality to further improve rider convenience.

In addition to the existing ride-by-wire throttle and Road and Rain riding modes, the Trident 660 also gains a third mode, Sport, which provides a more responsive performance.

For the suspension system, the Showa 41 mm front forks have been upgraded with Showa SFF-BF big piston damping, offering greater comfort and control.

At the rear, the Trident 660 utilises a monoshock RSU shock absorber with preload adjustment, also from Showa. It is equipped with Nissin braking systems featuring dual 310 mm discs and Michelin Road 5 tyres.

Finally, Triumph has introduced three new colour and graphic options for the Trident 660: Cosmic Yellow, Cobalt Blue, and Diablo Red, highlighted by a Sapphire Black trim and diagonal white stripes.

Additionally, there is a new forged aluminium top yoke and forged aluminium brake pedal.

No changes to the engine, which means the Trident 660 will soldier on with the tried-and-tested 660 cc DOHC three-cylinder engine that produces 81 PS at 10,250 rpm and 64 Nm at 6,250 rpm.

Jaecoo Malaysia explains the advantages of PHEV over HEV

Jaecoo recently previewed its latest Jaecoo J7 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) premium off-road SUV in Malaysia at its first experience pop-up store, with over 3,000 visitors recorded in a span of just five days.

While PHEVs and traditional Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) are common, Jaecoo’s interaction with patrons at the PHEV preview revealed an opportunity to enhance understanding about PHEVs which can help drivers make informed decisions.

While both PHEV and HEV technologies contribute towards lower carbon emission mobility, PHEVs are designed to provide superior flexibility, efficiency, and driving experience in key scenarios.

Longer range on pure electric power

PHEVs allow for significantly longer trips on electric power alone compared to HEVs, which rely on a much smaller battery capacity. For example, in daily commutes or city driving, PHEVs can travel up to 40 to 50 kilometers (depending on the model) without using a drop of petrol. This means drivers can experience emission-free, quieter, and more efficient driving for most short-distance trips, making it ideal for urban environments. The J7 PHEV’s battery range of 88 km is based on the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP).

Home charging convenience

PHEVs offer the flexibility to charge the vehicle at home or at public charging stations. HEVs, on the other hand, can only recharge their battery through regenerative braking or engine power, limiting their electric driving potential. With a PHEV, owners can wake up every morning to a fully charged battery, ready to handle most daily journeys on electricity alone, greatly reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

Enhanced performance with dual power

PHEVs allow for a seamless switch between electric and petrol power when needed, offering superior acceleration and performance compared to HEVs. In situations where instant torque is required, such as overtaking or navigating steep inclines, the electric motor of a PHEV can instantly provide additional power, making it a more versatile option for both city driving and long-distance travel.

Fuel independence for short journeys

In contrast to HEVs, which must use petrol after a short period of electric driving, PHEVs can run on pure electric power for most of the shorter daily trips, significantly reducing fuel dependency. This gives drivers the freedom to choose electric for local trips and petrol for long-distance travel, without compromising on performance or convenience.

Environmental impact

Since PHEVs can operate for extended periods without relying on the internal combustion engine, they contribute to reduced emissions, especially amidst concerns around air quality. HEVs, while fuel-efficient, still require constant engine engagement, making PHEVs the cleaner choice in many driving scenarios.

Set to be launched this year, the J7 PHEV All-Wheel Drive and Two-Wheel Drive variants are estimated to be RM180,000 and RM170,000 respectively.

Targeted RON95 subsidy should be based on vehicle type, says expert

The government has been urged to implement the targeting of RON95 petrol subsidies based on vehicle type rather than household or individual income.

According to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Malaysian Inclusive Development and Advancement Institute (Minda-UKM) director, Professor Tan Sri Dr Noor Azlan Ghazali, the concept is similar to vehicle classification for toll payments on highways.

He further added that, in the context of petrol subsidies, the classification should be based on vehicle engine capacity.

“It is common for those with low incomes to use motorcycles as their daily transport, while wealthier individuals tend to use vehicles with larger engine capacities.

“If a wealthy person uses a Perodua Kancil, they should qualify for the subsidy because they consume less fuel.

“Of course, there will be some leakage in every classification, but it can be minimised,” he said at a special press conference on the 2025 Budget on Thursday.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, announced in the 2025 Budget on Friday that the targeting of RON95 petrol subsidies is expected to be introduced by mid-2025.

Additionally, he stated that the government is advised to assist the underprivileged through alternative methods without disturbing market prices.

“I prefer to maintain market prices, and we cannot live in a state of denial.

“If we continue to suppress prices at a low level for an extended period, it will create a burden.

“If a war occurs in the Gulf countries, it will certainly lead to an increase in petrol prices; the public needs to be informed, and the government must provide assistance through alternative methods without interfering with market prices,” he said.
