Michelin Primacy 5 now available in Malaysia – 25 sizes, from RM477

Michelin Malaysia has recently launched the Michelin Primacy 5 tyre, designed for passenger vehicles and crossovers, whether powered by internal combustion engines (ICE) or electric motors.

Replacing the previous model, the Primacy 4, the new tyre promises enhanced performance along with reduced environmental impact.

Here are some of the benefits of the Michelin Primacy 5:

  • A new tread pattern featuring Michelin’s Silent Rib Gen-3 technology significantly reduces vibration and noise to provide a smoother, quieter, and more comfortable driving experience.

  • 24% greater mileage compared to other premium brands, achieved through a 10% increase in void ratio compared to its predecessor.

  • Optimised lateral groove edges contributes to the longer lasting wet performance.

  • These features are combined with MaxTouch technology, which maximises contact with the road and evenly distributes the forces of acceleration, braking, and cornering.

  • The braking distance is 8% shorter when new and 13% shorter when worn compared to other premium brands, thanks to Functional Elastomers 3.0 featuring Michelin EverGrip and Michelin EverTread Technologies that optimise water evacuation.

  • Compatible with EVs, due to the use of a high-performance tread rubber compound that reduces the tyre’s rolling resistance by 13% to improve energy consumption.

In addition to offering improvements in performance, safety, and comfort, the Michelin Primacy 5 tyre is also more environmentally friendly. Rolling resistance is improved by 5%, while its longevity is by 18%, allowing the tyre to be used until the legal tread depth. By design, its environmental footprint has been decreased by 6%.

In Malaysia, the Michelin Primacy 5 is available through the authorised Michelin dealer network. It is offered in 25 sizes (ranging from 16 to 19 inches), with prices starting from RM477 to RM1,026. All tyres sized 18 inches and above feature aesthetic sidewalls with full-ring velvet line.

All our tyres are EV-compatible, says Continental Tyre Malaysia

Continental Tyre Malaysia has stated that all of their tyres are suitable for electric vehicles, ensuring safety, comfort, and efficiency

Leveraging German technology and strong R&D, Continental addresses EV-specific requirements such as higher load capacity, low noise levels, and smooth performance.

Globally, the 10 highest-volume manufacturers of fully EVs, including BMW, BYD, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Smart, and Volvo, rely on Continental tyres for their original equipment (OE).

Drawing on its extensive experience, Continental ensures that all its tyres across various segments are specifically designed to be fully compatible with EVs and tailored to meet their unique performance requirements.

Among the Continental tyres available in the market are:

  • The SportContact SC7 delivers exceptional driving confidence and performance
  • The MaxContact MC7 emphasises precise control and handling
  • The UltraContact UC7 is for those seeking both comfort and outstanding wet braking
  • The ComfortContact CC7 stands out for its superior comfort and quiet ride
  • The EcoContact EC6/EC6 Q are designed to maximise energy efficiency, extending the driving range on a single charge

To ensure a tyre is suitable for an electric vehicle, consumers should look for features such as load and speed indexes of the tyre to handle the increased vehicle weight, traction and grip, and designs that maximise energy efficiency.

In addition to compatibility, Continental offers noise breaker technology that allows for quieter tyres.

“Our tyres are designed not only to enhance performance but also to meet the unique requirements of alternative drive systems. Our product lineup caters to a variety of vehicles, including fuel-powered, hybrid, and fully electric, and incorporates advanced technologies tailored to the specific demands of the Malaysian market,” said Andrea Somorova, Managing Director of Continental Tyre Malaysia.

Continental expands ContiSeal self-sealing tech to UC7, PCC and UC6 SUV tyres

Continental Tyre Malaysia has announced the expansion of its innovative ContiSeal technology to a wider set of products and rim sizes.

The company said it aims to fully incorporate the ContiSeal technology by July 2024 across the popular tyre models, the UltraContact UC7, PremiumContact C and UltraContact UC6 SUV, in sizes ranging from 16 to 20 inches.

First unveiled in 2003, the ContiSeal technology has been refined for more than two decades, enabling immediate sealing of 80% of all punctures, and 99.9% of tyre punctures up to 5 mm in diameter as they occur.

Through a vulcanisation process, ContiSeal tyre’s durability and elasticity are enhanced, resulting in reduced cavity noise up to 3dB through its minimised mass space within the tyre.

The sealant layer, which is applied to the tyre’s inside in the tread area, ensures that the tyre maintains its integrity and performance, even under rigorous and challenging conditions.

Therefore, in instances of foreign object penetration, such as nails, there’s no immediate need for roadside tyre changes, and holes remain sealed even when the puncturing object is dislodged.

A testament to its tyre reliability, the performance of the self-sealing technology is unaffected by environmental factors, with a service life that exceeds that of the tyre itself, providing continuous protection throughout the tyre’s lifespan.

Contrary to run-flat tyres, ContiSeal tyres perform like standard tyres without sacrificing comfort and require no specific vehicle modifications. ContiSeal tyres also maintain integrity and performance even after a puncture, allowing unrestricted driving and can be repaired if necessary.

Although ContiSeal offers an immediate fix, follow-up maintenance ensures long-term safety and performance. Due to its effective self-sealing ability, many drivers may not notice any puncture or sharp objects penetrated into ContiSeal tyre.

Continental guarantees ContiSeal under their standard manufacturing warranty; in the event of any defect of sealing performance for puncture within 5 mm (in the tread area), a pro-rated warranty reimbursement will be provided.

In addition, by purchasing the ContiSeal tyres, road users can also benefit from the Total Confidence Plan (TCP), which provides a one-to-one tyre replacement for unexpected road damage within the first year, with claims easily managed through the Conti TCP app.

Continental MaxContact MC7 tyre launched in Malaysia

CONTINENTAL Tyres has launched the new MaxContact MC7 high-performance tyre designed for urban landscapes and tailored to fulfill the needs of Asia Pacific (APAC) drivers.

According to the company, the MaxContact MC7 tyre was developed and tested by a team of 25 engineers and material experts through more than 8,000 hours in R&D.

Thanks to the optimisation of pressure distribution within the tyre, the MaxContact MC7 is capable of providing more refined handling and exceptional stability for drivers when making sharper turns.

The MC7 achieves this by maximizing the contact area with the road to create a wider footprint with the Cornering Macroblocks, thus redistributing force for a more controlled and stable drive.

Its ReFlex Compound also creates a higher resistance to tyre deformation and leads to improved steering response and accuracy. Its silica technology within the compound enhances the transfer of kinetic energy to heat when braking, leading to shorter braking distances on both dry and wet roads.

To ensure safety during the frequent wet weather seasons in the APAC region, the MC7 comes with 3D laser-cut sipes that improve grip and braking in wet conditions, and reduce the risk of aquaplaning by quickly expelling water that flows through the tyre grooves.

There’s also the upgraded two-in-one Noise Breaker 3.0 that breaks up sound waves, thus preventing noise from building up and traveling into the car cabin for a quieter drive.

The new MaxContact MC7 tyre is available in sizes ranging from 16 to 21 inches.
