RMAF: Aircraft in viral video, images not ours

The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) has denied that several aircraft, allegedly identified as the made in the United States F-5E model featured in a video, belong to the air force.

In a statement today, RAMF said the video and images of the aircraft have gone viral on social media platforms, including Facebook, TikTok and X.

“RAMF would also like to clarify that all aircraft it owns are controlled and managed systematically and safely according to RAMF’s operational standards.

“We urge that no further assumptions regarding this matter be made that could lead to speculation or incorrect perception,” read the statement.

Earlier, the 10-second video with images of several fighter jets believed to be located at a port went viral.

RMAF to upgrade C-130 Hercules avionics

THE Ministry of Defense has issued a tender for the upgrade of six units of C-130 Hercules aircraft belonging to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).

The tender was announced in several local newspapers and on the ministry’s website on August 20. However, it was not posted on the E-perolehan website.

The tender is related to upgrading the avionics of the transport aircraft. Interested bidders can participate in a visit scheduled for August 29, and the tender will close on October 10. The bidding documents cost RM1,500 and will be returned to unsuccessful bidders.

The RMAF’s C-130 upgrade program has been ongoing for the past two decades. Considering that the aircraft, known as Hercules, will be in use until 2040, upgrading the avionics section is necessary.

This year also marks the 70th anniversary of the aircraft. The YC-130A prototype made its maiden flight on August 23, 1954.

The RMAF has ten C-130 Hercules aircraft, including several C-130H-30 variants and four aerial refueling variants, KC-130H. All the C-130 Hercules transport aircraft are stationed in Squadron 20 at Subang Air Base and Squadron 14 at Labuan Air Base.

RMAF to negotiate with Kuwait for F/A-18 Hornet

THE Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) will be sending a team to Kuwait to negotiate the acquisition of F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets from the country.

Air Force Chief, General Tan Sri Mohd. Asghar Khan Goriman Khan, stated that a technical visit to the country will take place soon, with the executing team to be formed next month.

“Possibly in June (the visit), God willing, we will establish a team to carry out the technical visit there. Through this visit, the government and RMAF will decide on the number of Hornet aircraft to be acquired to strengthen the country’s air defense,” he said after presiding over the Conclusion Parade of the Young Airmen Training at the Air Force Academy recently.

Mohd. Asghar Khan mentioned that RMAF currently operates eight F/A-18D Hornet aircraft from the United States purchased in 1995 and started operating two years later.

“Kuwait has 39 Hornet aircraft with two-seater and single-seater variants. From this visit, we will determine the required number. If the visit yields positive results until 2035, RMAF may decide to purchase them,” he said.

Kuwait is set to retire the aircraft purchased in 1991 and replace them with more modern fighter jets.

RMAF has shown interest in acquiring Hornets from Kuwait since late 2021, considering the good condition of the fighter jet fleet and their relatively low flight hours. Let’s hope this process goes smoothly, and RMAF can strengthen their fleet.
