Chery Omoda 5 awarded 5-star for the ASEAN NCAP rating

CHERY Malaysia is proud to announce that the Chery OMODA 5 has achieved the coveted 5-star rating in the New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) safety evaluation.

This outstanding recognition underscores Chery’s unwavering commitment to delivering superior safety and quality in its vehicles.

The current ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 assessment protocol encompasses four assessment domains, with Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) covering 40.00 points of the overall score, and Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assist Technology (SA), and Motorcyclist Safety (MS) each contributing 20.00 points of the overall score.

The Chery OMODA 5 is the first model under the Chery brand to be evaluated by the ASEAN NCAP. In this assessment, the OMODA 5 demonstrated a strong commitment to vehicle safety, achieving a total score of 88.64 points and earning a prestigious 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating.

The breakdown includes 36.77 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 17.36 points for Child Occupant Protection (COP), 19.51 points for Safety Assist (SA), and 15.00 points for the Motorcyclist Safety (MS) category.

Highlights of the Chery OMODA 5’s Safety Performance:

  • Frontal Impact: The OMODA 5 successfully passed the ASEAN NCAP frontal collision test, which simulates a crash where the car hits a barrier at 64 km/h with a partial front impact. In the test, dummies representing an average adult male are placed in the driver and front passenger seats, while two child dummies—a 3-year-old and a 1.5-year-old— are secured in the back seats. This test confirmed that the vehicle provides effective protection for the driver, front passenger, and children in the event of a collision.
  • Side Impact Test: The OMODA 5 successfully passed the ASEAN NCAP side impact test, which evaluates how well it protects occupants during a side collision. In this test, amoving barrier hits the side of the vehicle at 50 km/h. A dummy representing an adult driver is placed in the front seat, while two child dummies—a 3-year-old and a 1.5-year-old—are seated in the back. The results confirmed that the vehicle provides strong protection for the driver and child passengers in the event of a side impact collision.
  • Pedestrian Protection Test: The Chery OMODA 5 also received top score in pedestrian protection, a critical aspect of the ASEAN NCAP evaluation, ensuring the safety of all road users.
  • Blind Spot Detection Assessment: A critical safety feature, Blind Spot Detection ensures areas the driver cannot see are monitored. The Chery OMODA 5 excelled in this area, achieving a perfect score for detecting blind spots on both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle.

Chew added that the rigorous testing and evaluation process by ASEAN NCAP covered various aspects of vehicle safety, including adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, safety assist technologies, and motorcyclist safety.

“OMODA 5’s high scores across the four categories demonstrate our comprehensive approach to safety and our dedication to continuous improvement,” said Chew during the media announcement of the Chery OMODA 5 ASEAN NCAP in Kuala Lumpur.

The Chery OMODA 5’s advanced safety features played a pivotal role in achieving this recognition. These features encompass multiple airbags, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), electronic stability control (ESC), anti-lock braking system (ABS), and more.

Together, they form a robust safety network designed to protect occupants and help prevent accidents.

Chery Malaysia assembled 10,000 CKD vehicles in 8 months

CHERY Auto Malaysia marks a significant milestone with the roll-out of its 10,000th vehicle since partnering with Inokom Corporation Sdn Bhd.

The accomplishment achieved within just 8 months of commencing operations at Inokom’s state-of-the-art 200-acre facility in Kulim, Kedah, underscores Chery Auto Malaysia’s commitment to growth and excellence in the local automotive industry.

Chery Auto Malaysia and Inokom Corporation formalised their partnership in May 2023 and the first batch of the locally assembled OMODA 5 and TIGGO 8 PRO were delivered in August the same year.

Chery’s soon-to-be launched TIGGO 7 PRO has also commenced assembly at the plant this month with the brand’s all-electric vehicle, the OMODA E5 to join the line-up soon.

With the increasing demand and favourable market reception, Chery Auto Malaysia is enhancing its operations by introducing a second assembly line to increase production efficiency at the plant.

The expansion will boost assembly capacity and better meet the growing needs of Malaysian consumers while also upholding the highest standards of quality control for its products and services.

Chery Omoda E5 officially launch, RM147k, early birds get free Wallbox Charger installation

CHERY Omoda E5 has finally been officially launched today, becoming the newest contender in the fully electric SUV B-segment. It is offered with the following price and package:

  • RM146,800
  • 7-year warranty
  • 8-year battery warranty
  • Free battery replacement when Battery Health decreases to 70 percent In addition, the first 2,000 customers will also receive free installation of the V2L Charger Wallbox, and a RM1,000 charging credit.

The Omoda E5 comes with a 61kWh battery that provides a driving range of up to 430km. The output for the electric motor is 201hp and 340Nm torque. With fast DC charging, it can be charged from 30 to 80 percent in just 28 minutes.

In terms of appearance, the Omoda 5 EV does not have a grille like the petrol version; instead, its front space is enclosed. It also comes with aero rims for improved aerodynamic efficiency.

Furthermore, it features a curved 24.6-inch 2K high-definition screen powered by a Qualcomm chip. It also includes the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function.

The driving features of the Omoda E5 include Easy Start-Up, Creep, Pocket Brake, One Pedal Driving, and AGS Active Air Intake System.

Chery Omoda E5 also supports V2L functions, allowing external device charging such as ovens, grills, rice cookers, and even electric scooters.

Four colors are offered for the Omoda E5: Aqua Green, Khaki White, Phantom Grey, and Dark Black. There are also two cabin color options – Blue & Beige, or Black.

Chery Omoda E5 launch in March 2024, EV SUV to be the Lead Car for Chery Eco Run

Chery Omoda E5 is set to be launched in March 2024, offering another compact B-segment SUV option with electric (EV) propulsion.

The Omoda E5 is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery, which is said to be more environmentally friendly. It has higher energy density for greater storage, thus offering a longer driving range, according to Chery.

Furthermore, Chery claims that the lithium iron phosphate battery can reduce the frequency and cost of battery replacement. This SUV can travel up to 430km on a single charge. With fast DC charging, it can be charged from 30 to 80 percent in just 30 minutes.

With an output of approximately 201hp (150kW), the Omoda E5 can accelerate to 100km/h in 7.8 seconds, and Chery claims that the SUV has an efficiency of 15kWh per 100km.

In terms of appearance, the Omoda E5 EV does not feature a grille like the petrol version; instead, its front space is enclosed. It also comes with aero rims for improved aerodynamic efficiency. Chery Malaysia has announced that this model will be available in seven body color options with three interior colors. Chery Eco Run Meanwhile, the Omoda E5 will be used as the Lead Car for the Chery Eco Run, which will take place at Dataran Wawasan Putrajaya on Sunday, January 7.

Carrying the theme “A New Journey To A New Green Life,” the event is in line with Chery Omoda E5’s environmental protection message. It is organized by Jom Run and is expected to attract over 3,000 participants.
