The SUV market in Malaysia is set to be shaken up with the latest offering from Jaecoo Malaysia, the Omoda C9.
Unlike the Omoda 5 and the Omoda E5, which are marketed under the Chery brand, the new premium off-road SUV coupe will be sold by Jaecoo Malaysia alongside the J7.
Similar to the J7, the C9 will be available in two-wheel drive (2WD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) variants.
However, compared to its Jaecoo-branded stablemate, the C9 has a larger footprint, measuring 4,775 mm in length, 1,671 mm in height, 1,920 mm in width, and with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm.
Spec-wise, the C9 is equipped with front and rear LED lights, 20-inch wheels fitted with 245/50 Michelin Primacy tyres, acoustic windshield, and a keyless door entry with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.
Inside, you will find a 24.6-inch infotainment screen, a 50W wireless charger, and a three zone air conditioning system with a fragrance and air quality system.
The AWD variant gets a 14-speaker audio system, whereas the 2WD variant comes with eight speakers.
The rear trunk has a capacity of 660 litres, which can expand up to 1,783 liters with the rear seats folded down.
Powering the C9 is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TGDI engine that delivers a healthy output of 245 hp and 400 Nm of torque.
Regardless of the variant chosen, the engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
However, there are differences in drive modes; the 2WD variant offers three drive modes, while the AWD variant features seven modes to help navigate urban and rough terrains.
With a ground clearance of 165 mm, the C9 is capable of traversing water at a maximum depth of 450 mm.
On the safety front, there’s Continuous Damping Control (CDC), a body constructed from 85% high-strength steel, and eight airbags.
On top of that, the C9 comes with ADAS 2.5, which features Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Door Opening Warning (DOW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Lane Change Assistance (LCA), and Emergency Lane Keeping Assistance (ELKA).
The Omoda C9 will be priced at RM185,000 for the 2WD variant and RM195,000 for the AWD variant.
According to Jaecoo Malaysia, the official launch of this model is scheduled for December.
