We will keep making V8 and V12 engines – Mercedes-Benz

This is good news for fans of V8 and V12 engines from AMG. During its annual results conference recently, Mercedes-Benz announced that it would continue to offer these engines.

For the V12 engine, the German manufacturer plans to keep producing it for the long term, although only for specific markets.

This is not really surprising, as currently, only one Mercedes model utilises the 12-cylinder mill, namely the Maybach S680. With a displacement of 6.0-litres and a pair turbochargers, the engine generates 612 PS and 900 Nm of torque.

Among the trio of German luxury brands, Mercedes will be the last to retain a 12-cylinder engine in its lineup. The last time BMW had a V12 model was in 2022 with the M760i, while Audi exited the segment in 2017 with the W12-powered A8.

Furthermore, Mercedes stated that it is developing a “next-generation, high-tech electrified V8” for models built on the AMG.EA platform. The engine is being developed to comply with stricter Euro 7 emission standards.

It is uncertain whether the next-generation C63 will adopt the new engine, but looking at the lacklustre response to the current four-cylinder hybrid model, it doesn’t seem like such a bad idea.

The automaker made no mention of the inline-six engine used by the S580e and CLS53, hence it’s safe to assume that it will soldier on.

When it comes to four-cylinder engines though, Mercedes said will debut a 1.5-litre 48-volt hybrid engine paired with an eight-speed DCT transmission in the new CLA next month.

Mercedes-Benz GLC350e Coupe, AMG GLC43 Coupe arrive in Malaysia – from RM425,888

2024 Mercedes-AMG G63 facelift launched in Malaysia – RM1,948,888

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has launched six new models in the local market, with the standout being the Godfather of SUVs, the Mercedes-AMG G63.

Design-wise, you might assume that there are no significant changes but take a closer look and you’ll see that the G63 now features a new front bumper with vertical slats on the air intakes.

Its imposing exterior is further enhanced by the AMG Night package, which adds black or dark chrome elements, 22-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels, and red-painted AMG brake calipers.

Inside, the layout remains virtually the same, complemented by features such as the Superior Line package, a sliding sunroof, Nappa leather upholstery, active multi-contour seats with massage function and climate control, and carbon fibre trim on the doors and dashboard.

In terms of equipment, there are two screens, each measuring 12.3 inches, the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system, a Burmester 3D audio system, a pair of rear screens, an AMG Performance steering wheel, and ambient lighting, to name a few.

Powering the G63 is a 4.0-litre biturbo V8 engine paired with an Integrated Starter-Generator (ISG) and 48-volt technology, effectively making it a mild hybrid. The combination produces 585 PS at 6,000 rpm and 850 Nm of torque from 2,500 to 3,500 rpm.

Brabus Rocket GTS is an SL 63-based shooting brake that can go past 300 km/h

Never have I thought that a roadster like the Mercedes SL could be reimagined as a shooting brake. But as it’s been proven time and time again, nothing is impossible with Brabus.

Believe it or not, the Rocket GTS you see here originally started life as a Mercedes-AMG SL63 S E Performance.

You might have a hard time recognising it, as the soft top convertible roof has been replaced with a fixed roof, a sloping windscreen, and a tailgate.

What’s even more impressive is that the entire body—including the bonnet, bumpers, side panels, and roof—is made from carbon fibre.

In addition, the front apron, rear diffuser, aerodynamic blades on the Monoblock P Platinum Edition wheels, and exhaust tips are also crafted from this lightweight material to keep the shooting brake’s weight in check.

Speaking of weight, Brabus has not disclosed the overall weight, but we’d bet it is considerably lighter than the donor car, which weighs a hefty 2,195 kg.

According to the company, the Rocket GTS has undergone wind tunnel testing to ensure stability at speeds of 300 km/h and above.

The front apron helps reduce lift, while the flat roof, ducktail spoiler, and aggressive rear diffuser design contribute to increased downforce at high speeds.

On top of that, the large air intake directs airflow towards the radiator and front brakes for improved cooling.

Like the SL 63, the interior of the Rocket GTS can still accommodate four passengers in a 2+2 configuration.

Moreover, by eliminating the convertible roof mechanism, Brabus has succeeded in creating a larger cargo space behind the cabin, making it much more practical than the SL.

As with most of Brabus’s designs, the cockpit has been upgraded with carbon fibre trim, Alcantara upholstery, soft leather, and the Brabus logo. Needless to say, customers have the freedom to choose from a vast array of options.

True to its name, the Rocket GTS is powered by a hybrid twin-turbo V8 engine from the SL 63, which has been enlarged from 4.0 litres to 4.5 litres. When combined with the electric motor on the rear axle, it boasts a whopping 1,000 PS and 1,820 Nm!

However, to protect the transmission, Brabus has decided to limit the torque to a more manageable 1,620 Nm.

Even so, this car can still accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in 9.5 seconds, and 0 to 300 km/h in 23.6 seconds. Brabus says the top speed is electronically limited to 317 km/h, suggesting that it could go even faster.

Mercedes-AMG A45 S 4Matic+ Limited Edition launched, only 10 units, RM589k

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has announced the arrival of the limited edition Mercedes-AMG A45 S 4Matic+ Limited Edition in the local market.

Since it’s a limited edition model, only 10 units of the A45 S Limited Edition will be offered in Malaysia, each priced at RM558,888 OTR without insurance. Bookings can be made through the online showroom at Mercedes-Benz Store.

First and foremost, the A45 S Limited Edition sets itself apart from the standard version through the AMG Green Hell Magno colour, which was first introduced in 2018 through the Mercedes-AMG GT R.

The striking green hue is complemented by yellow stripes on the body and rims, as well as the AMG crest on the bonnet and ’45 S’ lettering on the doors. It rides on 19-inch AMG forged wheels in a model-exclusive seven-twin-spoke design.

Hidden behind the wheels are AMG High Performance brake calipers which are coloured glossy black and have white AMG logos.

Completing the exterior package are the exclusive fuel cap with the AMG logo and the light projector that shines the AMG coat of arms onto the road when you get in and out of the vehicle.

The A45 S Limited Edition comes with three equipment packages, namely the AMG Night Package, AMG Night Package II, and AMG Aerodynamics Package.

The AMG Night Package includes elements in black and high-gloss black such as the front splitter, side mirrors, and beltline, while the AMG Night Package II brings darkened struts on the radiator trim as well as the black chrome typography on the front fenders and tailgate.

The AMG Aerodynamics Package, as the name suggests, includes special add-on parts and a fixed AMG rear wing that were developed in a wind tunnel.

Inside, you’ll find AMG Performance seats wrapped in Artico man-made leather and Microcut microfibre. Like the exterior, yellow stripes are used to adorn the seats, door panels, and instrument panels.

Additionally, there are also an AMG Performance steering wheel with Nappa leather/Microcut wrap, ’45 S’ embroidery on the headrests, aluminium trim elements with AMG pattern and yellow AMG lettering, AMG floor mats, and illuminated AMG door sill panels.

The A45 S Limited Edition is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 421 hp at 6,750 rpm and 500 Nm from 5,000 to 5,250 rpm.

With an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and the 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds before maxing out at 270 km/h.

Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro is Affalterbach’s newest track weapon

The lineup of the second generation Mercedes-AMG GT has been further expanded with the introduction of a new variant known as the GT 63 Pro 4Matic+.

Specifically designed for those who occasionally indulge in high-speed driving at the track, the GT 63 Pro can be distinguished by larger air intakes and carbon fibre air deflectors around the intakes.

Similar to the Mercedes-AMG One, this car also features additional air deflectors on the underbody to help accelerate the airflow in the area.

Combined with the Airpanel active air control system in the front apron and the fixed rear wing, Mercedes has managed to reduce the aerodynamic lift on the front axle by 30 kg and increase downforce on the rear axle by around 15 kg.

The car also comes with a carbon fibre package and 21-inch AMG Performance wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tyres sized 295/30 at the front and 305/30 at the rear. Customers can opt for the stickier Pilot Sport Cup 2R tyres at no additional cost.

Most of the interior is kept standard, but for the Pro, Mercedes has thrown in AMG Performance seats and an AMG Performance steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather and Microcut microfibre.

The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine develops 612 PS and 850 Nm in the Pro, an increase of 27 PS and 50 Nm over the non-Pro GT 63.

With the AMG Speedshift nine-speed transmission and the 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system, it only takes 3.2 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h and can reach a maximum speed of 312 km/h.

To ensure it can perform on the track without any issues, Mercedes has added two additional radiators in the wheel arches to help cool the powertrain.

In addition, there is an active cooling system for the front and rear differentials, and revised brake cover plates to channel more air to the brakes.

Speaking of brakes, the GT 63 Pro is equipped with 420-mm brake discs on the front axle, which are currently the largest standard ceramic brake discs available from Mercedes-AMG.

The Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance is the fastest model ever produced

WHILE the Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance is a hybrid sports car, it is the fastest model ever released. Introducing the latest two-door performance coupe from Mercedes-Benz, and it makes hybrid technology anything but boring.

Instead, the hybrid system contributes to the car’s performance. The hybrid nature can be seen in the term “E Performance” in the car’s name.

The heart of the Mercedes-AMG GT63 S is a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo unit, combined with an electric motor. The V8 engine alone generates 603hp, but its combination with the electric motor provides a total output of 805hp.

What’s even more intriguing is the combined torque of 1,420Nm! This easily delivers a 0-100km/h acceleration in just 2.7 seconds, making it the fastest AMG model ever produced.

The electric system in the GT63 S E Performance has a capacity of 6.1kWh and can be charged using a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system. The GT63 S can be driven in EV mode for a limited range, but its electric system remains focused on performance.

It is equipped with a 9-speed dual-clutch gearbox, delivering power to all wheels through the 4Matic+ system. In normal driving, the electric motor only sends power to the rear wheels, but when slip occurs, it can be shifted to the front.

The Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance also comes with a rear-axle steering system, AMG Active Ride Control suspension, 6-piston ceramic composite brakes, and 20-inch wheels as standard.

You can also choose 21-inch wheels. In terms of appearance, it’s difficult to differentiate the E Performance version from the regular AMG GT63.

There are special badges at the rear, as well as a charging port cover. Additionally, the aerodynamic package has been updated specifically for the hybrid powertrain.

The cockpit and cabin also receive the standard Mercedes-AMG treatment. The price has not yet been announced, and this fastest Mercedes-AMG will start selling at the end of 2024.

Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance arrives in Malaysia with 802 PS, 1,430 Nm!

IN addition to the Maybach GLS 600, the high-performance Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance has also been launched as part of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s Dream Cars Collection for 2024.

The S63 is powered by a 4.0-litre biturbo V8 engine combined with a hybrid system to produce a total output of 802 PS and 1,430 Nm, making it the most powerful S-Class ever built.

Thanks to the AMG Speedshift nine-speed transmission and AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system, the luxury sedan only needs 3.6 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. It can also hit a top speed of 250 km/h.

The S63 comes equipped with the AMG high-performance battery (HPB) with a capacity of 13.1 kWh, offering an electric driving range of up to 31 km. The HPB battery supports AC charging with a capacity of 3.7 kWh.

Standard exterior features include Digital Light headlights with Adaptive High Beam Assist Plus, the AMG Night package comprising high-gloss black and black chrome trim elements, and 21-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels.

Inside, there is an Nappa leather-wrapped AMG steering wheel, Anthracite open-pore poplar wood trim, AMG door sill panels with replaceable covers and red illuminated AMG logo, AMG floor mats, a panoramic roof, and ambient lighting system.

The infotainment system includes a 12.8-inch OLED display, a 12.3-inch instrument panel, an augmented reality (AR) head-up display, Burmester 3D surround sound system, and MBUX rear seat entertainment system.

Also fitted are high-performance composite brakes, AMG Active Ride Control suspension system, rear-axle steering, and safety features such as the Driving Assistant Package, Parking Package, Pre-Safe Plus, and Pre-Safe Impulse Side.

The S63 E Performance is priced from RM2,238,888.

Mercedes-AMG A45 S Limited Edition pays tribute to the Green Hell

The AMG Green Hell Magno is an exclusive paintwork created by Mercedes-AMG as a tribute to the famous Nurburgring Nordschleife, which bears the nickname “Green Hell.”

The unique colour made its debut back in 2018 with the Mercedes-AMG GT R. Now, the same eye-searing shade will be offered in the form of the A45 S Limited Edition.

Interestingly, despite being labeled as a ‘Limited Edition’, the production of this model will not be limited but it will only be available until the end of 2024.

What makes the A45 S Limited Edition stand out compared to the standard version? In addition to the distinctive colour, it also features yellow accents, glossy black highlights, and a large “A45 S” lettering on the doors.

The hot hatch also rolls on matte black 19-inch AMG forged wheels in a seven-twin-spoke design. If that’s not enough, Mercedes is also offering three equipment packages – the AMG Night Package, the AMG Night Package II, and rhe AMG Aerodynamics Package.

The AMG Night Package brings black and high-gloss black design elements such as the front splitter, side mirrors, beltline, and dark-tinted window surfaces from the B-pillar.

The AMG Night Package II adds darkened struts on the radiator trim black detailing on the radiator trim, as well as the black chrome typography on the front fenders and tailgate, the Mercedes star and exclusive to the edition the door handles and the Mercedes stars in the wheel hub caps.

The AMG Aerodynamics Package is particularly eye-catching as it contains special add-on parts and a fixed AMG rear wing developed in the wind tunnel. According to Mercedes, the package increases contact pressure and improves driving characteristics at high speeds.

Inside, you will find the same black and yellow theme as on the exterior, along with Artico leather and Microcut microfiber upholstery wrapping the AMG Performance seats and steering wheel. The headrests of the seats also bear the embroidered 4S S lettering.

Unfortunately, the A45 S Limited Edition gets no performance enhancements. The turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine continues to put out 421 hp and 500 Nm, making the A45 S the most powerful hot hatch in the world.

With an 8-speed automatic transmission and the 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds before reaching a top speed of 270 km/h.
