Jaecoo J8 previewed for the Malaysian market – estimated price from RM195k

This year, Jaecoo Malaysia is busy making waves.

In less than a month after the launch of the latest Jaecoo J7 PHEV model, another model is set to be launched soon – the Jaecoo J8.

Previewed earlier in 2024, the Jaecoo J8 is now on public display at One Utama Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya from March 27-30.

The Jaecoo J8 has the following dimensions: 4,820 mm long, 1,930 mm wide, and 1,699 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.

Thanks to its relatively long dimensions, the Jaecoo J8 is available in two configurations: two rows (five seats) or three rows (six seats).

The SUV is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo engine producing 249 PS and 385 Nm, paired with a eight-speed automatic transmission. It will be available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (AWD).

The driving experience is further enhanced by a Continuous Damping Control (CDC) system, exclusive to the AWD variant, and a water wading depth of 450 mm.

Exterior features include full LED lighting, 20-inch alloy rims, embedded door handles, a Mercedes-style Panamericana grille structure, and a floating roof design.

The cabin layout is reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, featuring twin 12.3-inch screens and a panoramic sunroof.

The Jaecoo J8 2WD includes a 540-degree camera system, a Sony audio system with 12 speakers, and a cargo space of 738 liters.

The AWD version upgrades to a Sony audio system with 14 speakers, 10 airbags, an automatic fragrance system, NFC-based key system, power-adjustable first and second-row seats, ventilation for the driver, and leather and suede trim in the cabin.

The J8 AWD offers a significantly smaller cargo space of 200 liters, in contrast to the 2WD version.

The estimated selling price starts from RM195,000 for the 2WD version and goes up to RM220,000 for the AWD version.

Those interested in seeing the Jaecoo J8 SUV up close can visit One Utama Shopping Centre (GF Luxe) from March 27-31, Queensbay Mall (April 9-13), and the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 (May 8-15).

Note: The displayed Jaecoo J8 outside is a pre-production unit; final specs may vary.

Jaecoo Malaysia begins nationwide deliveries of J7 PHEV

Jaecoo Malaysia has announced that it has begun delivering its latest offering, the J7 PHEV, to its dealerships across the country.

According to the company, the delivery of the first batch of the SUV in the first quarter of this year is proceeding as scheduled.

“The arrival of the first units of the JAECOO J7 PHEV at dealerships nationwide marks a major milestone for Jaecoo Malaysia and demonstrates our commitment to customers. We are excited for Malaysians to experience the innovation and sophistication of the J7 PHEV firsthand,” said Emily Lek, Vice President of Jaecoo Malaysia.

Launched on February 28, the J7 PHEV is priced at RM158,800 and is locally assembled at the Chery Malaysia production plant in Shah Alam, alongside the pure ICE-powered J7.

Each purchase of the J7 PHEV comes with a seven-year engine warranty or up to 150,000 km mileage, and an eight-year warranty or up to 160,000 km mileage for the battery, power motor, and power motor controller unit.

The eight-year warranty offers a 1-to-1 exchange if the state of health (SOH) of the battery falls below 70% during the warranty period.

The J7 PHEV is available in three colours, namely Khaki White, Carbon Crystal Black, and Moonlight Silver. Khaki White is a limited-edition with only 100 units available, after which Jaecoo will subsequently introduce an Olive Grey option.

Jaecoo Malaysia begins delivery of 500 units of Omoda C9

Jaecoo Malaysia has commenced the delivery process for 500 units of the Omoda C9 SUV to customers nationwide.

According to Emily Lek, the Vice President of Jaecoo Malaysia, “It is extremely gratifying to see the market’s positive reception for the C9.

“It affirms our concerted effort and commitment to introduce best-in-class vehicles that suit the needs and preferences of drivers here.

“We’re ready to take our customers on the next phase of their ownership journey with JAECOO with the support of our extensive network of exceptional dealers.”

Officially launched in December, the Omoda C9 is a premium off-road coupe SUV offered in two main variants: the 2WD version, priced at RM168,800, and the AWD version, priced at RM188,800.

The Omoda C9 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo engine that produces 261 PS and 400 Nm, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Similar to the Jaecoo J7 model, the Omoda C9 is also assembled at the Jaecoo manufacturing facility located in Shah Alam.

7,041 units of the Jaecoo J7 were sold in just five months

Jaecoo Malaysia has announced that it managed to sell 7,041 units of the Jaecoo J7 in the first five months following its launch in July last year.

Jaecoo Malaysia vice president Emily Lek stated, “We appreciate our customers for their faith in the Jaecoo brand and we will remain dedicated to deliver on our brand promise with best-in-class vehicles and a premium ownership experience.”

Following the success of the J7 and C9 models in 2024, Jaecoo Malaysia aims to introduce more new models in 2025, in line with its mission to provide a range of affordable luxury vehicles in the automotive market.

The company’s efforts will begin with the launch of the J7 PHEV in February 2025. In preparation for its launch, the SUV will undertake a long-distance driving challenge across three countries – Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand – using a single full tank of petrol and one charge.

Meanwhile, to appreciate the achievements of its dealer network, Jaecoo has recognised 12 outstanding dealers at its first dealer award ceremony.

During the event, Auto Galaksi, which is based in Johor, took home the trophy for achieving the highest sales within the network.

Also recognised at the dealer awards ceremony were Gagner Auto, ES Premium Holdings, Luxury Legend, Siang Hin (KL), Apple Autotech, Kluster Automobile, Carshen, AAW Nexus, BH Premium Auto, Indah Utara Enterprise, and Tropical Impact Auto.

“These awards recognise the vital role our dealer network plays in the brand’s overall achievement. We will continue to expand our dealer network in line with our ambition to provide the absolute best customer experience” said Emily.

In an effort to identify further growth opportunities, Jaecoo will be expanding its evaluation to include Best Customer Service Index (CSI) and Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) scores among others in the coming year.

We have tried the Jaecoo J7 – Test Drive

With its striking price and appearance (some have said it resembles a Range Rover), the Jaecoo J7 has created its own phenomenon in the Malaysian market.

The Jaecoo J7 model was first showcased in early 2024 before officially launching a few months later, starting at RM138,800 for the two-wheel drive version and RM148,800 for the AWD version.

Since its official launch, this SUV model has become quite popular, almost as hot as fried bananas, even overshadowing local brands for a time.

Many may be drawn to its elegant exterior, while others may desire the off-road driving capabilities offered by the Jaecoo J7.

To investigate the real reasons behind this SUV’s popularity, we managed to obtain a Jaecoo J7 test unit for a week of driving, and here are our opinions:

1. Price Below RM150,000 for a ‘Range Rover’, Who Wouldn’t Want It?

We admit that after getting a closer look at the Jaecoo J7, it indeed has an aura that makes many consider it a ‘people’s version’ of the Range Rover.

This perception is especially strong when viewed from the side.

With its luxurious-looking design, the Jaecoo J7 appears to satisfy those who want a premium SUV image without sacrificing their bank account.

2. Is the Jaecoo J7 2WD Sufficient?

We were provided with the two-wheel drive (2WD) variant of the Jaecoo J7 for our test drive.

There are two significant differences between this model and the AWD variant, namely the drive system and the driving modes included.

The Jaecoo J7 2WD only offers three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport, compared to up to seven driving modes for the AWD variant (which includes additional modes for Sand, Mud, Off-road, and Snow).

However, the capabilities of both variants remain the same, such as a ground clearance of 200 mm and the ability to wade through water up to 600 mm deep.

For those who do not prioritize off-road driving capabilities, the 2WD version is more than adequate.

We had the opportunity to test this SUV’s ability to navigate flash floods in the Klang area, and it performed excellently, able to maneuver past several cars that dared not proceed.

The suspension tuning of the Jaecoo J7 also impressed us, maintaining good controllability even on unpaved roads while preserving a comfortable driving experience.

3. Powerful Engine

Powering this SUV is a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four engine that produces a maximum output of 194 hp and a torque of 290 Nm.

With a seven-speed DCT transmission from Getrag, the Jaecoo J7 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.2 seconds.

In terms of driving, the Jaecoo J7 poses no significant issues for swift cruising, offering stable and comfortable driving even at high speeds.

However, by default, the Jaecoo J7 starts in Eco mode every time the drive button is pressed, and you must switch it to Normal mode for a smoother takeoff.

In Eco mode, we noticed that the initial driving experience was not very pleasant at times, occasionally feeling as if the vehicle was somehow reluctant to move forward.

4. Minimalist Cabin

The simplified approach on the exterior continues into the design of the cabin space, which is more minimalist while simultaneously conveying a sense of premium atmosphere.

The centrally located 13.2-inch screen houses various functions and settings, including air conditioning controls and multiple safety features that can be adjusted.

The good news is that to raise or lower the cabin temperature, you only need to press a button on the center console to open the air conditioning control menu, without having to search for the menu, especially after the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto menu is displayed.

Although the front seats do not come with a comprehensive adjustment function, we appreciate that they provide enough cushion dimension to support the lower legs.

As a result, we did not feel excessively fatigued during our drive.

Accompanying us throughout the journey was a pleasant and captivating sound produced by eight Sony speakers, which filled the cabin.

There are several other features we liked, particularly the digital cluster screen that still offers analog meter display options, and a clear, easy-to-read head-up display.

For the rear seats, there are two adjustable reclining angles available.

5. Driving Experience

Aside from its handsome appearance, the Jaecoo J7 is actually very enjoyable to drive.

This is not only due to its ability to attract public attention but also the handling and comfort it offers.

The MacPherson strut suspension setup in the front and the Multi-Link setup in the rear contribute to good handling on winding roads, complemented by a responsive steering feel.

More importantly, the NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) levels are minimal, allowing passengers to relax peacefully without significant disturbances.

From the driver’s perspective, the windshield of the Jaecoo J7 offers a wide field of view, supported by practical side mirrors for such a large SUV.

Thus, most of the time, I preferred to rely entirely on these physical features, only using the surround camera display to ensure there were no obstacles around the vehicle while positioning the car in the parking space.

6. Practicality

In addition to a cabin that offers ample leg and headroom for both front and rear passengers, the Jaecoo J7 provides a sizeable cargo space.

With a volume of 412 liters, it is adequate to accommodate various necessities, and it can be expanded up to 1,349 liters when the second-row seats are folded down.

Moreover, the Jaecoo J7 still has space to accommodate a full-size spare tire!

7. Comprehensive Safety Features

In terms of safety, the Jaecoo J7 is generous with various functions, including autonomous emergency braking, front collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, forward vehicle movement warning, and adaptive cruise control.

It also includes rear collision warnings, rear traffic cross alerts, blind-spot monitoring, and a comprehensive 360-degree monitoring system.

To ensure your driving remains safe, the Jaecoo J7 is equipped with speed limit reminders and a very useful tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

In conclusion, the Jaecoo J7 could serve as an alternative for daily driving if you’re tired of the options currently available in the SUV market and want a vehicle with a premium image that attracts attention.

Its price is also reasonable enough not to leave your pocket feeling empty every month.

It wouldn’t be a mistake to change your mind and drive this model home, especially with the complete package of style and specifications offered for our market.

Jaecoo J5 set to enter Malaysian market next year (Q4 2025), challenging X50, HR-V

Are you a fan of the Jaecoo brand but looking for a smaller-sized SUV compared to the current J7 offering?

Fret not, as Jaecoo Malaysia has confirmed the emergence of another new model set to hit the local market in the fourth quarter of the upcoming year (Q4 2025), namely the Jaecoo J5.

The Jaecoo J5 was officially unveiled at the Omoda | Jaecoo International User Summit 2024 in Wuhu, China recently.

Described as a pet-friendly SUV, the Jaecoo J5 comes equipped with several beneficial features.

For instance, extended seats for pet comfort, an air conditioning system with powerful filtration capabilities, smart climate control, and antibacterial health devices that can inhibit any bacteria growth inside the cabin.

The Jaecoo J5 is also suitable for outdoor activities as it has the ability to accommodate a load of up to 1,250 kg, a roof rack capable of holding up to 75 kg, charging ports, hooks in the cargo space, as well as versatile camping lights.

Other features include a free-hanging system, a 13.2-inch infotainment screen, and a 1.45 square meter panoramic glass roof claimed to be the largest in its class.

According to media reports, the Jaecoo J5 is equipped with the same 1.6-liter turbo TGDI engine used in the Jaecoo J7, producing 194 hp and 290 Nm paired with a seven-speed DCT transmission.

As mentioned earlier, the Jaecoo J5 has been confirmed for the Malaysian market in the fourth quarter of the upcoming year (Q4 2025) and will compete with models in its segment such as the Proton X50, Honda HR-V, Chery Omoda 5, and Peugeot 2008.

Jaecoo Malaysia explains the advantages of PHEV over HEV

Jaecoo recently previewed its latest Jaecoo J7 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) premium off-road SUV in Malaysia at its first experience pop-up store, with over 3,000 visitors recorded in a span of just five days.

While PHEVs and traditional Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) are common, Jaecoo’s interaction with patrons at the PHEV preview revealed an opportunity to enhance understanding about PHEVs which can help drivers make informed decisions.

While both PHEV and HEV technologies contribute towards lower carbon emission mobility, PHEVs are designed to provide superior flexibility, efficiency, and driving experience in key scenarios.

Longer range on pure electric power

PHEVs allow for significantly longer trips on electric power alone compared to HEVs, which rely on a much smaller battery capacity. For example, in daily commutes or city driving, PHEVs can travel up to 40 to 50 kilometers (depending on the model) without using a drop of petrol. This means drivers can experience emission-free, quieter, and more efficient driving for most short-distance trips, making it ideal for urban environments. The J7 PHEV’s battery range of 88 km is based on the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP).

Home charging convenience

PHEVs offer the flexibility to charge the vehicle at home or at public charging stations. HEVs, on the other hand, can only recharge their battery through regenerative braking or engine power, limiting their electric driving potential. With a PHEV, owners can wake up every morning to a fully charged battery, ready to handle most daily journeys on electricity alone, greatly reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

Enhanced performance with dual power

PHEVs allow for a seamless switch between electric and petrol power when needed, offering superior acceleration and performance compared to HEVs. In situations where instant torque is required, such as overtaking or navigating steep inclines, the electric motor of a PHEV can instantly provide additional power, making it a more versatile option for both city driving and long-distance travel.

Fuel independence for short journeys

In contrast to HEVs, which must use petrol after a short period of electric driving, PHEVs can run on pure electric power for most of the shorter daily trips, significantly reducing fuel dependency. This gives drivers the freedom to choose electric for local trips and petrol for long-distance travel, without compromising on performance or convenience.

Environmental impact

Since PHEVs can operate for extended periods without relying on the internal combustion engine, they contribute to reduced emissions, especially amidst concerns around air quality. HEVs, while fuel-efficient, still require constant engine engagement, making PHEVs the cleaner choice in many driving scenarios.

Set to be launched this year, the J7 PHEV All-Wheel Drive and Two-Wheel Drive variants are estimated to be RM180,000 and RM170,000 respectively.

2025 Jaecoo J7 PHEV, 342 hp/525 Nm, estimated price RM170k, official launch this year

Jaecoo Malaysia today began the preview session for the new J7 PHEV SUV model that will be launched this year, located at Sunway Pyramid.

The plug-in hybrid SUV will be sold at an estimated price of around RM170,000 for the 2WD version.

Unlike the standard J7, which comes with a 1.6-liter turbo engine, the J7 PHEV is equipped with a fifth-generation hybrid powertrain, consisting of a 1.5-liter turbo engine (141 hp/215 Nm), electric motor (201 hp/310 Nm), and an 18.3 kWh battery pack.

Overall, the J7 PHEV is capable of generating up to 342 hp and a torque of 525 Nm, with acceleration from 0-100 km/h in just 8.5 seconds and a fuel consumption rate as low as 4.9 liters/100 km.

According to Jaecoo, the J7 PHEV can operate in zero-emission mode for up to 106 km, with an overall range reaching 1,300 km on a full tank of fuel.

The 2WD version comes with three driving modes, namely Economy, Standard, and Sports.

In terms of exterior, the design of the J7 PHEV does not show significant changes except for the aerodynamic 19-inch rims (235/50 R19 tires) and the battery charging port on the right side.

It also retains the MacPherson front suspension setup followed by a multilink at the rear, and the same dimension size as the petrol J7 model.

The cargo space of the J7 PHEV has also increased to 500 liters and can reach up to 1,265 liters when the second-row seats are folded.

The J7 PHEV cabin features include a 10.25-inch cluster screen, a 14.8-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and dual-zone climate control.

The most advanced safety features included are automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, driver monitoring system, emergency lane-keeping assistance, intelligent high-beam assistance, lane departure warning, rear traffic warning, and traffic jam assistance.

There are three available colors, including black (Carbon Crystal Black), white (Crystal White), and silver (Moonlight Silver), all with a black roof.

Jaecoo J7 PHEV successfully proves driving 1,300 km on one full tank

The Malaysian contingent and six other nations has successfully demonstrated that the Jaecoo J7 PHEV model is capable of traveling over 1,300 km on one tank of fuel and a full battery in a marathon event from Guangzhou to Wuhu, China last week.

The 13-hour journey, which began on October 16, witnessed the Jaecoo J7 PHEV achieving an emission-free distance of 125.2 km, or 19.2 km further than the official distance.

According to the specifications, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV is powered by a 1.5-liter TGDi engine with an electric motor, DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission) transmission, and an 18.3 kWh battery pack, offering an electric driving range of 106 km, as well as the best fuel consumption rate in its class, approximately 5.99 liters per 100 km.

According to Jaecoo Malaysia’s Vice President, Emily Lek, “this success proves the excellence of Jaecoo’s Super Hybrid System (SHS) technology, which offers efficient and energy-saving driving and sets a new benchmark for efficient transportation.”

For the local market, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV will be offered in two variants, namely 2WD and AWD.

The 2WD variant comes with the options of Standard, Sport, and Economy driving modes, while the AWD version adds Sand, Mud, Snow, and Off-Road modes.

This plug-in hybrid SUV is set to be launched towards the end of this year, with distribution expected to start in February 2025.

Omoda C9 previewed in Malaysia – 2 variants, from RM185k

The SUV market in Malaysia is set to be shaken up with the latest offering from Jaecoo Malaysia, the Omoda C9.

Unlike the Omoda 5 and the Omoda E5, which are marketed under the Chery brand, the new premium off-road SUV coupe will be sold by Jaecoo Malaysia alongside the J7.

Similar to the J7, the C9 will be available in two-wheel drive (2WD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) variants.

However, compared to its Jaecoo-branded stablemate, the C9 has a larger footprint, measuring 4,775 mm in length, 1,671 mm in height, 1,920 mm in width, and with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm.

Spec-wise, the C9 is equipped with front and rear LED lights, 20-inch wheels fitted with 245/50 Michelin Primacy tyres, acoustic windshield, and a keyless door entry with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.

Inside, you will find a 24.6-inch infotainment screen, a 50W wireless charger, and a three zone air conditioning system with a fragrance and air quality system.

The AWD variant gets a 14-speaker audio system, whereas the 2WD variant comes with eight speakers.

The rear trunk has a capacity of 660 litres, which can expand up to 1,783 liters with the rear seats folded down.

Powering the C9 is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TGDI engine that delivers a healthy output of 245 hp and 400 Nm of torque.

Regardless of the variant chosen, the engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

However, there are differences in drive modes; the 2WD variant offers three drive modes, while the AWD variant features seven modes to help navigate urban and rough terrains.

With a ground clearance of 165 mm, the C9 is capable of traversing water at a maximum depth of 450 mm.

On the safety front, there’s Continuous Damping Control (CDC), a body constructed from 85% high-strength steel, and eight airbags.

On top of that, the C9 comes with ADAS 2.5, which features Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Door Opening Warning (DOW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Lane Change Assistance (LCA), and Emergency Lane Keeping Assistance (ELKA).

The Omoda C9 will be priced at RM185,000 for the 2WD variant and RM195,000 for the AWD variant.

According to Jaecoo Malaysia, the official launch of this model is scheduled for December.

First 500 units of Jaecoo J7 delivered to dealerships

JAECOO Malaysia has officially begun delivering its first 500 units of the J7 premium off-road SUV to dealerships.

The brand has been at work over the past seven months setting up a self-sufficient ecosystem and network, which culminated in the official launch of the J7 in mid-July.

Three weeks since the launch, the brand is now fulfilling its promise of delivering the first batch of J7 SUVs in the third quarter of the year, well within its anticipated schedule.

“It has been a great year for Jaecoo beginning with an exciting preview period which led to an overwhelmingly positive reception during the official launch of the J7. We are very excited to deliver the first 500 units of our J7, and we are equally excited to place customers in the driver’s seat of Malaysia’s hottest premium off-road SUV,” said Chery Corporate Malaysia Executive Vice President, Leo Chen.

The first 500 units comprise the all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant. The next group, to be delivered in September, will comprise the two-wheel-drive (2WD) variant.

The J7 is priced at RM148,800 for the AWD variant, and at RM138,800 for the 2WD. Jaecoo’s pricing strategy has positioned the J7 as a formidable challenger in the C-segment SUV category as an attainable luxury brand.

“Our focus is on maintaining a steady momentum of delivering orders for the J7 in the coming months. We are also very happy to share that our network is ready to immerse our customers in the Jaecoo “From Classic, Beyond Classic” premium customer experience, from vehicle handovers to after-sales service,” said Jaecoo Malaysia Vice President, Emily Lek.

Both variants of the J7 come with a seven-year/150,000 km mileage warranty, a testament to the brand’s confidence in its innovation and quality.

Customers will be supported by a nationwide dealership network comprising 35 locations across the country, a dedicated production plant and a Jaecoo genuine parts warehouse, ensuring speedy and seamless after-sales support.

Jaecoo J7 previewed in Malaysia – CR-V rival with 1.6 turbo, 194hp/290Nm

JAECOO Malaysia today unveiled their first SUV bet for Malaysia, the Jaecoo J7. For those who don’t know, Jaecoo is a brand under Chery, and this SUV is a segment-C model positioned as a premium off-road vehicle.

From several perspectives, the Jaecoo J7 indeed looks more premium compared to its competitors such as the Mazda CX-5 and Honda CR-V. The Jaecoo J7 is expected to be officially launched around the second quarter of 2024.

The J7 is powered by a 1.6-liter turbo petrol engine with an output of 197hp and 290Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. There are two variant options: front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (AWD).

The Jaecoo J7 has a ground clearance of 200mm with the ability to wade through water up to a depth of 600mm. It is also capable of towing up to 1,300kg, and its roof rack can accommodate up to 75kg.

Standard features of the Jaecoo J7 include layered LED headlights, LED DRLs, 19-inch Aurora rims, leather-wrapped seats, 64-color ambient lighting, seven driving modes, and a 50W wireless charger.

Other features include a head-up display, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.8-inch infotainment system, seats with cooling function, dual-zone air conditioning, and a panoramic sunroof.

Safety features are also quite comprehensive, such as Front Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Emergency Lane Keeping, Curve Speed Assistance, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assist, and Parking Assistance.

The price has not been announced yet, but according to Jaecoo, the price of this SUV will be around that of the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, which is priced at RM159,800. Can it compete with existing players in the Malaysian market?

Oh yes, the Jaecoo J7 will also be locally assembled (CKD) from the beginning. Interesting?
