Malaysian-made RXZ Twin Boss V2 set to wow crowd at Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show

FNG Works’ RXZ Twin Boss V2 became the talk of Art Of Speed 2024 after clinching both the Jury Pick and Public Choice Award at the Art of Speed Invitational Bike Build Off.

As the overall winner of the build off, the RXZ Twin Boss V2 will be showcased at the 32nd Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show 2024 in Japan, alongside the best custom vehicles from across Japan and the world.

FNG Works is owned and operated by Mohamad Irwann Bin Mohd Azlan. The 33-year-old, affectionately known as Cheng, is a graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from UiTM Shah Alam.

Some of his inspirations come from motorcycles crafted by Khalid “The Rusty Factory”, Omar Jumiran, Padin Musa, Hills Angels, Azizan Rahim, and Acid Welding. As for International builders, Cheng admires the works of Maxwell Hazan, Allen Millyard, Ed Roth, Arlen Ness, and Sure Shot.

The story of the Twin Boss V2 harksback to Art Of Speed 2017 with the debut of the original RXZ Twin Boss. In its V1 design, the Twin Boss was also powered by two Yamaha RXZ 135cc engines but configured with one engine in front of the other and connected at the crank via chain-drive. The original Twin Boss was completed in a ‘Digger’ style and became the lucky draw giveaway prize of AOS 2017.

For the 13th Annual Art Of Speed Malaysia 2024, Cheng took a new and evolved approach for the RXZ Twin Boss V2, this time fully combining two Yamaha RXZ 135cc engines into a single two-cylinder engine.

Cheng explains, “I wanted to create a bike that looks beautiful and pleasing to the eyes. Some might categorise it as a ‘Board Tracker’ or a ‘Land Speed Racer’ style, but I started with two Yamaha RXZ engines that I merged into one unit.

“From there I built a motorcycle around the engine that, in my opinion, has the right proportions and lines. For the final touch I aimed for the highest level of fabrication precision that I could achieve.”

Art Of Speed Malaysia (AOSM) is proud to finance Cheng’s entry for the event, with a budget of RM60,000 to send the bike to Japan, including flight, hotel, transportation, and logistics.

To celebrate this event, the AOS team will be producing a short film to commemorate the RXZ Twin Boss V2’s journey from Ipoh, Malaysia to Yokohama, Japan.

The film project will feature Cheng, together with co-star Farid Nabawi, the Creative Director of AOS. Hanif Sulhi, who won Best Documentary Series Award 2023, Fail Mahkamah TV3, brings his talent in storytelling and will serve as the Director of the short film.

Titled “RXZ Balik Kampung: Dari Ipoh ke Yokohama”, this cohesive, powerful message aims to empower creativity among youth, foster fun, and create unforgettable memories.

The short film will be divided into a series of six episodes, premiering across all AOS social platforms on Christmas Day, 25 December 2024. It will also be submitted for various International Film Festivals, notably the Motorcycle Film Festival (Toronto, Canada), VAHNA Motorcycle Film Festival (USA), and Dubai Motorcycle Film Festival (Dubai).

AOSM believes that Malaysia’s participation in this event will highlight talented Malaysians on a world stage and bring global attention to Malaysia’s creative industry especially in the world of customization.

The AOS team will be in Japan for six days with 15 members to support and cheer on FNG Works.

From February 23rd to 25th, the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) will play host to the Off The Grid (OTG), an event specially tailored for outdoor lifestyle enthusiasts.

Organised by the same team behind Art of Speed (AOS), the event is inspired by Japan’s biggest annual outdoor lifestyle event, ‘Fieldstyle’ and is expected to attract approximately 30,000 visitors.

Set to take place inside the 150,000 sq ft Hall A, OTG 2024 will feature five main attractions, as follows:

  • An outdoor lifestyle vendor exhibition featuring leading brands such as Montanic Adventure Store, Anbot Store, Campguru, Eiger Adventure, Pahlawan Store, Outside Malaysia, EcoFlow, and many more.
  • Brew Festa is a slow bar concept with an outdoor/camping theme where baristas dedicate their time to meticulously craft coffee specifically for coffee enthusiasts looking to stimulate their brain neurons.
  • BBQ Showdown is a nightmare for vegans hosted by MeatXpert Premium Butcher.
  • Makers Jamboree & Pasor Dinda Ladies Market is the best place for vintage and rare item hunters.
  • Exciting activities for the whole family including skimpool, surf skate, roller disco, strider races, and hourly lucky draws for those who spend RM100 in a single receipt.

In addition to these main attractions, visitors can also enjoy traditional and acoustic performances, as well as participate in meet-ups for van campers, MINI RC Crawler hobbyists, and much more.

Vendors at OTG 2024 also have the opportunity to participate in the Best Booth Competition, which is divided into two categories: Best Vendor Booth (Food and Community) and Best Brand Booth.

The winners in each category will win a trip for one to the 2024 Fieldstyle Jamboree in Nagoya, Japan on May 18th and 19th, 2024.

Those interested in attending OTG 2024 can obtain weekend passes online for RM35 or RM50 if purchased on-site. The weekend pass is valid for a three-day entry.

There are also single-day passes available for RM15 if purchased online or RM20 if bought directly at the venue. Entry is free for children under 12 years old and for OKU cardholders.

Tickets can be purchased through the official website at https://otg.artofspeedmy.com/ticket/. A processing fee of RM3 per ticket will be charged for all online purchases.
