UMW Toyota forms strategic partnership with MOT, delivers five electrified vehicles for evaluation

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has forged a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT) to drive green mobility initiatives.

As a show of strong support, UMWT has delivered five electrified vehicles, including hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) such as the Toyota Alphard, Camry, and Corolla Cross, as well as two battery electric vehicles (BEVs), the Toyota bZ4X and Lexus RZ.

Through this initiative, the MOT has the opportunity to assess the true capabilities of these vehicles concerning suitability, performance, and benefits for daily use.

Additionally, UMWT will provide comprehensive hands-on learning opportunities for MOT officials, covering aspects from infrastructure readiness, user experience to operational efficiency across various platforms.

According to Datuk Ravindran K, President of UMW Toyota Motor, “Malaysia’s journey towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 is not just an empty vision, but a collective mission that demands close collaboration across all sectors.”

“Through the ‘Multipathway Toyota’ approach, electrification is not merely viewed as an innovation, but is also adapted in an inclusive and pragmatic manner according to the needs, readiness, and capabilities of various segments of society.”

“With this approach, every layer of society is given the opportunity to move forward together towards a greener and more sustainable future—no one will be left behind, no one will be marginalized,” he further stated.

While full electrification remains a long-term aspiration for the country, hybrid technology emerges as an effective solution to minimize carbon emissions without requiring drastic changes to existing infrastructure or consumer habits.

According to Mohd Shamsor Mohd Zain, Executive Director of UMW Toyota Motor, “Hybrid technology continues to be a key driver in Toyota’s electrification plan, particularly in the context of markets like Malaysia.”

“Its ability to reduce carbon emissions immediately without necessitating major changes to the supporting ecosystem makes it the most ideal option.”

“It not only offers practical solutions but also builds confidence among mainstream consumers while paving a smoother and more progressive path towards a fully electric mobility future.”

30 schools to participate in Toyota Eco Youth 2025 for RM167,000 rewards

UMW Toyota Motor has officially announced the opening of registrations for the annual Toyota Eco Youth 2025 event.

Supported by the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE), this initiative encourages secondary school students nationwide to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to environmental issues.

This year’s 24th edition doubles the number of participants to 30 schools, increasing the funding to RM167,000, with each selected school receiving a grant of RM3,000.

Students will also have the chance to compete for cash prizes totaling RM77,000 across various categories: RM30,000 for the champion, RM20,000 for the first runner-up, RM10,000 for the second runner-up, and RM5,000 each for sub-categories such as Best Social Media Campaign, Best Presentation, and Best Exhibition, as well as RM2,000 for the Best Advisor Teacher category.

Since its introduction in 2001, Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) has benefited nearly 600 schools and more than 300,000 students across Malaysia, guiding them in developing critical skills to drive change within their communities.

The effectiveness of this annual program is evident as TEY participants successfully present innovative ideas that can be translated into real projects that have a positive impact on society.

For example, a group of students developed a system that not only reduces agricultural waste but also improves local waste disposal methods, enhancing community health and environmental sustainability in Kuala Bikam.

In Penang, marine pollution issues have been addressed through community-based cleaning programs that help restore the marine ecosystem.

In Sarawak, a group of students introduced sustainable agricultural practices that reduce reliance on harmful chemicals, while promoting long-term environmental conservation efforts.

All these successes stem from the unique application of Toyota’s 8-Step Problem Solving Methodology (PSM), which equips students with systematic problem-solving skills that enable them to identify issues in-depth, understand root causes, and devise practical and sustainable solutions.

“Toyota Eco Youth is not just about raising awareness of environmental issues—it’s about taking action,” said Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor.

“By doubling the number of participating schools and allocating a larger fund, we are offering more opportunities for students to devise innovative solutions that can propel Malaysia towards a more sustainable future.

“We are excited to see how this year’s participants will create change and inspire the community with their ideas,” he added.

Interested schools can register at the link https://bit.ly/TEY2025_RegisterNow before April 3, 2025, while the official launch event, workshops, and opening ceremony will take place from April 28 to April 30, 2025.

Toyota Crown Estate HEV & PHEV officially launched in Japan

The sixteenth generation of the Toyota Crown family is now available in Sedan, Crossover, and Sport versions.

If you’re looking for a much more practical Crown, the Crown Estate is the answer you need.

Toyota Japan has officially begun sales of the Crown Estate, which comes with the option of a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrain.

Both systems utilize a 2.5-liter engine (code A25A-FXS) paired with two electric motors and an E-Four all-wheel-drive system.

In the Crown Estate HEV, the front motor output is enhanced by 50 percent compared to the Crossover and Sport models, aimed at improving acceleration, especially when carrying passengers.

Meanwhile, the Estate PHEV version is equipped with a lithium-ion battery pack that allows for a zero-emission driving range of up to 89 km.

Built on the TNGA-K platform, the Toyota Crown Estate measures 4,930 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, 1,625 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm.

The suspension system features MacPherson struts in the front, followed by Multi-link setup in the rear.

Driving dynamics are enhanced with the inclusion of a Dynamic Rear Steering (DRS) system for more agile handling, as well as Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) to ensure passengers remain comfortable and enjoy a high-quality ride.

The exterior design of the Crown Estate follows the design language shared with its siblings.

The front features hammerhead shark-like elements with thinner daytime running lights, a neatly integrated grille structure in the bumper, and 21-inch wheels.

The cabin layout is similar to what is featured in the Crossover, Sport, and Sedan models, with a 12.3-inch cluster display paired with a similarly sized infotainment screen.

Using an island architecture, the dashboard layout is designed to minimize eye movement during driving.

The Crown Estate’s cargo space can accommodate up to 570 liters of goods, or up to 1,470 liters with the second-row seats folded flat.

Toyota also offers special items for this model, including seat cushions and a small table to use in that space, especially when engaging in outdoor activities.

In Japan, the Toyota Crown Estate is priced starting at 6,350,000 yen (RM190,457) for the HEV version, and can reach up to 8,100,000 yen (RM242,945) for the PHEV version.

Toyota FT-Me breaks cover, rival to Citroen Ami and Opel Rocks-e

Alongside the C-HR+, Toyota Motor Europe has also introduced another electric vehicle, though this one is significantly more teeny and occupies only half a parking space.

Known as the FT-Me, it is a concept vehicle that embodies Toyota’s vision for all-electric micromobility that combines premium design with affordability.

The EV is indeed very small, measuring less than 2.5 metres in length and featuring just two seats. Its rather eccentric design is inspired by a jet helmet, and most components you see here are made using recycled materials, helping to reduce carbon emissions by up to 90%.

Battery specifications have not been disclosed but according to Toyota, its propulsion system consumes three times less energy per kilometre than a high-capacity battery electric car.

The propulsion system is complemented by solar panels on the roof that can add an extra 20 to 30 km of range, depending on weather conditions.

In addition to being small enough to fit in the narrow European streets, the FT-Me can be operated via hand controls, making it usable to wheelchair users without any aftermarket modification.

It is uncertain whether the FT-Me is intended for production, but Toyota states that the vehicle is designed for people with entry-level driving licences, including those as young as 14 years old in some markets.

This means that the FT-Me will be classified as a quadricycle, similar to the Citroën Ami and Opel Rocks-e, if it ever sees the light of day.

Toyota C-HR+ debuts in Europe, e-TNGA 2.0 platform, range up to 600 km

Toyota now has a new electric vehicle (EV) model, and it no longer uses the ‘bZ’ prefix seen in models like the bZ4X and bZ3.

Instead, it adopts the existing name, C-HR+.

Although it carries the C-HR+ name, this electric vehicle does not share the same platform as the standard C-HR; rather, it utilizes the e-TNGA 2.0 platform, which is the same as that of the bZ4X.

This is evidenced by its length of 4,520 mm and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm, significantly larger than the second-generation C-HR.

For the European market, the C-HR is available in a single electric motor version with 165 hp, offering acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds, a 57.7 kWh battery pack, and a driving range of 455 km.

A more powerful version produces 221 hp with a swift 0-100 km/h time of 7.4 seconds, accompanied by a 77 kWh battery pack that allows for a range of up to 600 km.

There is also an all-wheel-drive version equipped with two electric motors, generating 338 hp and achieving acceleration from 0-100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds. With the same 77 kWh battery pack, this AWD variant can travel up to 525 km.

In terms of exterior design, the C-HR+ closely resembles the standard C-HR, with the exception of more streamlined taillights, a roof spoiler, and a ducktail spoiler at the rear.

Standard features for the C-HR+ include AC charging at 11 kW (or up to 22 kW) as well as DC fast charging of up to 150 kW.

To ensure optimal charging operation, the C-HR+ is equipped with a battery pre-conditioning system that can be activated manually or automatically.

Inside the cabin, there is a 14-inch infotainment display complete with physical control knobs, dual wireless device charging slots, and a mapping navigation system capable of identifying charging points based on the SUV’s driving range.

Finally, the C-HR+ is equipped with advanced safety features as standard, including a blind spot monitoring system, adaptive high beam assistance, and parking brake support.

Features such as a surround-view monitoring system and parking assistance are reserved for the more premium variants.

According to Toyota, the C-HR+ is set to launch in several selected European markets by late 2025.

Toyota Land Cruiser was a favorite among thieves in Japan last year

We’re accustomed to hearing about Toyota’s success, particularly regarding sales performance and customer reliability.

However, in Japan, Toyota reportedly topped the charts for the most stolen vehicles throughout 2024, dominating the top ten spots!

According to data from the Japan General Insurance Association, the Toyota Land Cruiser (including the Prado model) has topped the list for the fourth consecutive year.

In 2024, there were 688 reported Land Cruiser thefts, accounting for 27.5 percent of every 100 vehicles stolen.

This means more than one in four vehicles stolen were Land Cruiser models.

The Alphard minivan took second place with 289 cases, followed by the Toyota Prius (235) in third. The Lexus LX ranked fourth (109), the Lexus RX fifth (89), Toyota Crown (62), Toyota Hiace (43), Toyota Vellfire (38), Lexus LS (34), and finally, the Toyota Voxy (21).

According to the data, Land Cruiser thefts in 2024 increased significantly compared to 2023 (383 cases), contributing to a total of 2,499 theft cases overall.

Toyota’s 3rd gen hydrogen fuel cell system promises more range

To this date, the use of electric vehicles with hydrogen fuel cell systems (FCEVs) is still not as widespread compared to electric vehicles (EVs).

Take, for instance, the Toyota Mirai, a hydrogen-powered sedan that has been available since 2014, with over 28,000 units sold in more than 30 countries.

This is a relatively small figure.

However, in addition to the passenger car market, Toyota has also been supplying this fuel cell system for other uses, such as buses, trains, and stationary power generation systems since 2019.

Looking ahead, Toyota still believes that this hydrogen system can serve as a better alternative to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and EVs.

The third-generation fuel cell system was officially introduced recently, promising a more compact unit and a driving range that is 20 percent longer (up to 772 kilometers).

Furthermore, Toyota claims that this third-generation system can achieve durability comparable to that of diesel engines while offering maintenance-free design benefits.

Through innovations in cell design and manufacturing processes, this system is also cheaper to produce, contributing to a more affordable sales price.

The third-generation fuel cell system will not only be used for the passenger vehicle segment but is also expected to be expanded to the heavy-duty commercial vehicle segment for markets in Japan, Europe, North America, and China by 2026.

Second-generation Toyota Mirai

UMW Toyota Motor sold 5,383 units in January 2025

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) continues its strong performance in the Malaysian automotive market with total sales of 5,383 units for the month of January 2025.

With an unwavering commitment to quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction, UMWT says it is well-positioned to build on this momentum as the year progresses.

Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor said the company’s strong start to 2025 reflects its dedication to delivering exceptional vehicles that meet the evolving needs of customers.

“This achievement is a testament to the trust our customers place in us, and we remain dedicated to exceeding expectations by delivering advanced vehicles and unparalleled ownership experiences.

Reasons why Toyota Vios is still worth buying in 2025 – Test Drive

Buyers in Malaysia seeking a B-segment sedan are quite fortunate, as we are presented with several attractive models including the Honda City, MG5, Nissan Almera, Proton Persona, and not to forget the Toyota Vios.

This segment is precisely suitable for those looking to upgrade to a larger daily vehicle after enjoying the experience of using a budget hatchback.

It offers a comfortable cabin for the whole family, ample cargo space, and a variety of modern technologies in line with current developments.

Most importantly, the annual road tax costs remain within the financial reach of most buyers.

The Toyota Vios was officially launched in 2023, but at that time, many may not have been fully receptive to its somewhat aggressive design.

However, the Vios has certainly found a place in the hearts of netizens, as it became one of the 10 most popular models in Malaysia for 2024, trailing the Honda City by just 1,900 units.

After two years have passed, is the Vios still worth owning in 2025? If you ask us, the answer is: Yes!

Here are five reasons why we believe the Vios should be considered by young people.

1. More Premium Appearance

In the past, the Vios had a rather ordinary sedan appearance. In fact, one generation of the Vios was likened to a dugong due to its round design.

However, this new generation of the Vios presents a bolder look, reminiscent of larger Toyota sedans like the Corolla and Camry.

Have you noticed that the front design of the Vios notably features elements inspired by the hammerhead shark, even before Toyota popularized it through models like the Prius and Crown?

The fastback sedan design, 17-inch wheels, diffuser, aerodynamic elements, and body kit contribute to the aggressive aesthetic of this sedan.

More importantly, the Vios can now proudly stand alongside the two sedans mentioned earlier.

2. More Fun to Drive

The Vios is not just a new exterior; it now boasts a foundation built on a brand-new platform developed in collaboration with Daihatsu.

The Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA-B) platform, shared with models like the Perodua Alza/Toyota Veloz, provides significant benefits in terms of handling and comfort.

In short, the Vios is now more enjoyable to drive compared to its predecessors!

The author personally tested the harmonious tuning of steering, suspension, and chassis recently on a trip back to their hometown.

The improved driving dynamics are attributed to the more precise steering response, offering more feedback in any situation.

It is very easy to anticipate the sedan’s body movements, particularly when driven a bit aggressively, aided by well-tuned suspension that ensures stability on winding roads.

At times, the author found it exhilarating to tackle every curve before being reminded by the lane departure warning system (LDW) present in the Vios.

What about the engine performance?

As you may know, the Vios is equipped with a 1.5-liter engine producing 104 hp and 138 Nm of torque — on paper, this seems less powerful compared to competing models.

Yes, we admit there is still some engine noise that enters the cabin when the engine is pushed, but this occurs only occasionally. However, if you have a heavy right foot, that’s a different story.

Most of the time, the Vios has no trouble reaching the desired speed, and tackling mountainous areas is also not a significant issue.

This is because the Vios has been tuned for more economical fuel consumption, with Toyota claiming it can achieve a fuel efficiency rate of 5.2 liters/100 km.

One aspect that clearly sets the Vios a step above a competing local brand.

My experience returning to my hometown, which is located at the midpoint of Peninsular Malaysia, did not require frequent fuel refills.

3. Comfort is Paramount

In addition to driving factors, what makes the Vios feel more premium is the remarkably quiet cabin environment throughout the journey.

The standard suspension tuning provided in the Vios not only enhances driving pleasure but also minimizes any harshness and vibrations resulting from tire and road surface interactions.

As a result, the cabin remains comfortable and quiet, even the sound of the wind is difficult to hear at normal highway speeds.

One notable drawback of the Vios is the manual seat adjustment for both the driver and front passenger.

However, we believe this shortcoming can be overlooked due to the very supportive cushion dimensions, especially in the thigh area.

For those who enjoy long journeys, this feature is crucial for ensuring comfort throughout the drive, preventing excessive fatigue.

The cabin design of the Vios represents a significant upgrade introduced by Toyota to differentiate it from the previous Vios model.

The use of higher-quality materials and finishes, along with a more streamlined dashboard layout, successfully gives the Vios a more premium appearance, even though it shares many components with Daihatsu models.

One thing the author noticed is that although there are panel gaps on the dashboard, it is difficult to detect vibrations when the sedan traverses uneven surfaces, indicating a good level of factory assembly quality.

However, I hope the air conditioning control knobs can be improved in appearance to align better with the premium image that the dashboard aims to convey.

The quality of the air conditioning system in the Vios is not to be taken lightly; it is highly effective in keeping the cabin comfortable in Malaysia’s hot daytime temperatures.

4. Modern Features in the Vios

In line with current developments, the Vios also showcases several advanced features compared to competing models.

One of them is the digital cluster screen with various graphic display options that can be changed. If you prefer not to have an analog display, you can opt for the GR Corolla meter display.

The Vios is also equipped with a 360-degree camera system, enhancing its premium feel over competing models.

The resulting display image is quite clear, aiding owners in ensuring that the Vios’ beautiful body remains free from scratches, especially in tight areas.

Finally, the Vios includes an electronic parking brake (EPB) complete with an Auto Hold function, which is particularly helpful when caught in traffic congestion.

The Vios’s safety features are noteworthy as well; it includes a pre-collision system (PCS) that effectively prevents unintended collisions, adaptive cruise control (ACC), and forward motion alerts (FDA) to warn drivers who might lose focus at traffic signals.

The lane departure warning (LDW) feature also functions well, and I particularly enjoyed the notification sound reminiscent of warnings that pilots hear in an aircraft cockpit.

Additionally, the blind spot monitoring system (BSM) and rear cross traffic alert (RCTA) ensure day-to-day driving remains safe at all times.

5. Forgivable Weaknesses

As you may know, the Vios does have a few shortcomings, such as the absence of a spare tire and non-folding rear seats.

According to Toyota, most users do not utilize either of these functions, so they are not offered in the new Vios.

The absence of a spare tire allows for more hidden storage space in the rear.

What about the rear seating issue mentioned earlier?

Two years ago, the Chief Development Engineer of the Vios, Kamino Hideyuki, revealed that the lack of a rear seat folding mechanism was replaced with a brace to enhance the rigidity of the new Vios chassis.

Overall, the Vios is 110 kg lighter than its predecessor. As the saying goes: Weight reduction, bro!

In our opinion, these two weaknesses can be overlooked because the benefits of driving experience and handling are significantly improved in this Vios compared to earlier models.

In conclusion, the Toyota Vios is a B-segment sedan that is still worth considering and owning in 2025 if you have a budget of around RM100,000 and wish to upgrade to a larger, more practical vehicle.

More importantly, the Vios is now a car that is more enjoyable to drive!

Toyota remains as world’s number one automaker for fifth consecutive year

Throughout 2024, Toyota Motor Corp sold a total of 10.82 million vehicles, allowing the automaker to maintain its global leadership for the fifth consecutive year.

Despite this figure representing a 3.7 percent decline compared to 2023, Toyota explained that there is still strong demand for its hybrid vehicles.

The second place was secured by the Volkswagen Group, with total sales of 9.03 million units, while the Hyundai Group recorded sales of 7.23 million units.

For the first time, BYD surpassed Honda, Nissan, and Suzuki with sales of 4.27 million units last year.

In comparison, Honda sold 3.81 million units, followed by Nissan with 3.35 million units and Suzuki with 3.25 million units.

Excluding brands under its umbrella such as Hino and Daihatsu, the sales figures for Toyota-branded vehicles alone reached 10.16 million units, a drop of 1.4 percent, following its involvement in a vehicle certification scandal, which led to a temporary halt in the production of certain models.

In key markets, Toyota recorded a 4.3 percent increase in sales, reaching 2.73 million vehicles in North America, followed by a 3.6 percent increase to 1.17 million vehicles in Europe.

However, Toyota’s sales in China saw a decline of 6.9 percent, totaling 1.78 million vehicles, due to ongoing price wars among major domestic manufacturers.

This Toyota AE86 tissue box is perfect for Initial D anime fans

The popularity of the anime Initial D has driven prices for 1980s and 1990s sports cars—both full-size versions and die-cast models—into the stratosphere, making them increasingly unaffordable.

By offering a diverse range of vehicles, Toyota meets the evolving needs of customers while also supporting the country’s transition towards sustainable mobility.

Landc Roomy: A minivan transformed into a ‘Land Cruiser’

If you find the Toyota Land Cruiser (and Prado) too large to fit in your garage, worry not, as ESB Style now brings elements of this off-road SUV to the Toyota Roomy minivan.

The package, dubbed ‘Landc Roomy,’ borrows several design features from the Land Cruiser, such as a large, wide grille complemented by an aggressive bumper.

Due to spatial limitations, it is somewhat challenging to incorporate all of the Land Cruiser’s elements into this minivan. Therefore, ESB Style has restricted the modifications to the front end, while the rear bumper still receives a sporty touch, accompanied by white steel rims wrapped in Toyo Open Country R/T tires.

Additionally, the suspension system has been raised by 30 mm to enable the ‘Landc Roomy’ to tackle light off-road trails more easily.

Inside the cabin, ESB Style offers accessories like a foldable “Fox Mat,” which allows the Roomy’s cabin space to be transformed into a camping van.

Here is a list of accessory prices offered by ESB Style for your reference:

  • Front Bumper – ¥100,000 (RM2,848)
  • Rear Bumper – ¥60,000 (RM1,709)
  • Suspension Kit – ¥50,000 (RM1,424)
  • Set of Steel Rims – ¥60,000 (RM1,709)
  • Fox Mat – ¥25,000 (RM712)

In Japan, the Toyota Roomy is not classified as a kei van, as it comes with larger dimensions and is powered by a three-cylinder inline engine of 996 cc capable of producing up to 98 PS.

The naturally aspirated version only generates a power output of 69 PS, but you can opt for the Toyota Roomy (or Daihatsu Thor/Subaru Justy) with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (AWD).

Toyota Alphard/Vellfire PHEV launched in Japan, 73 km EV range, starting from RM306k

Toyota has announced its latest update, introducing the 2025 model year Alphard/Vellfire with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) engine option.

This PHEV configuration combines a 2.5-liter engine (A25A-FXS) with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery, capable of providing an electric driving range of up to 73 km on a full charge.

Overall, the system can generate a power output of up to 306 PS.

Like Toyota’s conventional hybrid vehicles, the BEV mode is prioritized to achieve lower fuel consumption rates of 16.7 km/liter (or 5.98 liters/100 km).

According to Toyota, the lithium-ion battery pack is positioned under the floor to maximize cabin space and lower the center of gravity by 35 mm compared to the HEV model.

Charging the battery (up to 80 percent) takes approximately 38 minutes.

In addition to offering a quieter driving experience (with added sound insulation), enhanced comfort, and reduced vibrations, Toyota has introduced the Smooth Stop control feature, which prevents nose-dive effects during deceleration to ensure passenger comfort.

The PHEV model also features “My Room Mode,” allowing users to enjoy a comfortable cabin space for working, resting, or engaging in other activities while charging.

Along with the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, both the Alphard and Vellfire PHEVs are equipped with a Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) feature for emergency purposes, where a full tank of fuel and a charged battery can provide power for up to 5.5 days.

Other enhancements include a Digital Inner Mirror system and front and rear dash cameras as standard features, followed by a premium JBL audio system with 15 speakers and a 14-inch rear infotainment system for the Z and Z Premier trims.

Toyota Auto Body also offers the Alphard Spacious Lounge, a four-seat version that provides more legroom and is equipped with various luxurious amenities.

In Japan, the retail price of the Alphard PHEV starts at JPY 10,650,000 (RM306,177), while the Vellfire PHEV is priced from JPY 10,850,000 (RM311,927).

Toyota Hilux Champ SUV to be sold in Indonesia, estimated starting price below RM111k

The Toyota Hilux Champ is a budget version of the truck produced by Toyota as a more affordable alternative to the mid-size Hilux pickup.

In addition to serving as a workhorse, the Hilux Champ also has the potential to function as a passenger vehicle — providing an alternative to the Toyota Fortuner.

In Indonesia, the Hilux Rangga (another name for the Hilux Champ) will be officially offered by Toyota Astra Motor in an SUV version, featuring a three-row, seven-seat configuration.

The construction of the body for this new SUV will be handled by New Armada.

It can be said that the front section of this SUV still retains the original design of the Hilux Rangga; however, everything changes from the B-pillar backward.

Angular design elements dominate the sides and rear of the Hilux Rangga SUV, and if you notice, the roof structure is higher compared to the Hilux Rangga pickup version.

At the rear, the word “RANGGA” appears on the tailgate, accompanied by more basic-design rear lights.

The interior of the Rangga SUV features a 2+3+2 seating arrangement upholstered in leather-like material.

Due to the presence of a third-row seat, the cargo space is somewhat limited, even though the overall size is larger than the pickup version.

The Rangga SUV model is set to go on sale in Indonesia next year, with an estimated starting price below Rp 400,000,000 (approximately RM 111,000).

For comparison, the cheapest Hilux Rangga pickup carries a price tag of Rp 188,700,000 (approximately RM 53,000), while the larger Toyota Fortuner is priced from Rp 573,700,000 (approximately RM 160,000).

Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series now offered with manual transmission, again

Fans of the Land Cruiser 70 Series in Australia can breathe a sigh of relief as this modern classic off-road SUV is now available again with a manual transmission.

Due to stricter emissions regulations, Toyota had previously ceased sales of the LC70 equipped with the 4.5-liter V8 engine, thus ending the availability of the manual transmission model.

However, Toyota has now reintroduced the manual transmission option for the Land Cruiser 70 Series, which is powered by a turbocharged 2.8-liter diesel engine producing 201 hp and 450 Nm of torque.

Despite having four fewer cylinders, the 2.8-liter engine offers nearly the same horsepower and torque as the V8 model.

In the Australian market, the LC70 is also available in a six-speed automatic version, which increases torque to 500 Nm at an earlier engine speed of around 1,600 rpm, compared to 2,400 rpm in the manual version.

The manual model features a unique gear ratio, with shorter ratios for gears one through three to enhance performance, while the fifth gear has a longer ratio for improved fuel efficiency and reduced engine noise.
