WTCA Automotif, a subsidiary of Warisan TC Holdings, has launched the 2024 GAC GS3 Emzoom lineup, which now includes two new locally assembled (CKD) variants.
The range topper, the GS3 Emzoom Premium R, is produced at the company’s assembly plant in Segambut and is now sold alongside the Standard and Exclusive variants, also assembled at the same facility.
All three variants are powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo engine, generating 177 PS at 5,500 rpm and 270 Nm from 1,400 to 4,500 rpm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in eight seconds.
This performance is complemented by a fuel efficiency rating of 5.9 litres per 100 km, allowing the GS3 Emzoom to be recognised as an Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV).
Regardless of the chosen variant, the GS3 Emzoom comes equipped with LED headlights, hidden electric door handles, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The Premium R variant sports a more dynamic appearance featuring an R-Style body kit and R-Style exhaust.
The Standard variant is available in Frost White and Asphalt Black, while the Exclusive variant comes in Salt Lake Blue and Superstar Silver. These colours are also offered for the Premium R variant, alongside the exclusive Graphite Grey.
Notably, Asphalt Black and Graphite Grey are exclusive to the GS3 Emzoom CKD and are not available in any other markets outside Malaysia.
Inside, a blue-black color scheme is featured across all three variants. Standard amenities include a crystal electronic gear shift, multifunction steering wheel with four-way tilt and telescopic adjustment, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, electronic parking brake, and Blind Spot Vision (BSV).
Exclusive for the Premium R are automatic headlights, High Beam Assist, Fusion Automatic Parking, six-way adjustable driver’s seat, ambient lighting system, wireless charging, hands-free tailgate, and a panoramic sunroof.
The pricing (OTR excluding insurance) for the GAC GS3 Emzoom CKD starts at RM103,800 for the Standard variant, RM116,800 for the Exclusive, and RM126,800 for the Premium R.
It comes with a warranty of five years or 150,000 km. However, the first 2,000 customers will enjoy additional coverage with a seven-year or 180,000 km warranty for the engine and transmission.
WTC Automotif (WTCA), a subsidiary of Warisan TC Holdings Bhd, has officially launched the 2024 GAC GS3 Emzoom in Malaysia. The crossover was previewed for the first time back in January.
Offered in completely built-up (CBU), the GS3 Emzoom is available in two variants, namely Exclusive (RM118,900) and Premium R (RM128,900).
However, according to WTCA, they have already commenced production of the completely knocked-down (CKD) version of the car in Segambut.
Set to compete with the Honda HR-V and Proton X50, the GS3 Emzoom Exclusive measures in at 4,410 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height. Its wheelbase of 2,650 mm is the longest in its segment.
Thanks to the aggressive R Style Sport Package bodykit, the length of the Premium R variant slightly increases to 4,446 mm. It can also be distinguished by the centre-mounted twin-tip exhaust.
Step inside and you will find blue and black leatherette upholstery, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, a crystal electronic gear shift, and various amenities such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android phone mirroring, surround-view camera, electronic parking brake with autohold.
Exclusive to the Premium R is the added luxury of automatic climate control, six-way power adjustment for the driver seat, multi-colour ambient lighting, wireless smartphone charger, hands-free power tailgate, Fusion Automatic Parking Assist (FAPA) and a panoramic sunroof.
Ath the back is a rather spacious boot offering 341 litres of storage, which is expandable to 1,271 litres with the rear seats folded down.
Both variants are powered by a 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder engine producing 177 PS at 5,500 rpm and 270 Nm of torque from 1,400 to 4,500 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission.
As far as performance is concerned, the GS3 Emzoom can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.0 seconds, just 0.1 second slower than the X50 TGDi with 177 PS and 255 Nm. Average fuel consumption stands at 5.9 litres per 100 km.
Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with Level 2 autonomous driving comes as standard, bringing features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Front Collision Warning (FCW), Traffic Sign Recognition System (TSR), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Intelligent Speed Limit Control (ISLC).
As the range-topping variant, the Premium R gets two additional features, namely High Beam Assist (HMA) and Fusion Automatic Parking Assist.
The GS3 Emzoom is available in four colours: Salt Lake Blue, Ivory White, Graphene Grey, and Super Star Silver.
To commemorate the launch, WTCA is offering a Special Launch Package for the first 2,000 early-bird customers. The package consists of three complimentary scheduled service maintenance (including labour, parts and lubricants), and an added seven-year/180,000 km engine and powertrain warranty.
They will also receive a complimentary limited GAC Smart Watch Key which functions like the original car key with the additional connectivity features of a smart watch.
IN addition to the GS3 Emzoom, WTC Automotif (WTCA) also previewed two more models that it will soon bring into the Malaysian market, namely the GAC Emkoo and GAC Aion Y Plus.
The Emkoo is a mid-size SUV that will compete with the likes of the Honda CR-V and Proton X70. No exact date has been given but it is said to enter our market later this year.
On the other hand, the GAC Aion Y Plus is a somewhat futuristic looking electric SUV marketed under GAC’s sub-brand Aion, which focuses on EVs. According to WTCA, the Aion Y Plus is expected to be launched in the first half of 2024.
As you can see, Emkoo boasts a bold and aggressive design highlighted by its V-shaped grille and ‘Eyes of Revelation’ LED headlights. Its interior underlines a digital and innovative concept with a semi-floating digital instrument cluster as the centrepiece.
In China, this model is available with a choice of 1.5-litre turbo, 2.0-litre turbo, and hybrid powertrains. It is still unknown which one we’ll get but rumours are pointing to the 1.5-litre mill, which develops 177 PS and 270 Nm, exactly the same amount of power as the GS3 Emzoom.
Aion Y Plus is built using the GAC Aion Electric Platform (AEP2.0), which the company claims costs around RM2 billion and took 30 months to develop. This platform features the longest wheelbase in its segment at 2,750 mm and a spacious full flat floor for rear passengers.
Not only that, its front seats can be reclined fully to form a 1.8 metre-wide double bed. Rear passengers can also enjoy a legroom of 1,022 mm, which is claimed to be the most spacious in the industry.
In terms of powertrain, Aion Y Plus is equipped with a 63.2 kWh Magazine battery that offers a driving range of up to 490 km (NEDC) or 430 km (WLTP) on one full charge.
WTC Automotif Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Warisan TC Holdings Bhd, has announced that the GAC GS3 Emzoom is now officially open for booking.
According to the company, bookings can be made with a fee of RM1,000, and the first 100 customers to make a booking will be invited to attend a private event.
The GS3 Emzoom is a B-segment SUV that will go toe-to-toe with the likes of the Proton X50 and Honda HR-V. For the Malaysian market, it will be offered in two variants, namely Exclusive and Premium-R, and is expected to be priced below RM130,000.
The GS3 Emzoom features several distinctive design elements such as the Mecha Wing grille, Laser Eye split LED headlights, Light Dart taillights, electric hidden door handles, ducktail rear spoiler, and crystal gear shift selector.
The right-hand drive preview unit comes with 18-inch alloy wheels. It will be available in four colours: Ivory White, Starlight Silver, Lake Blue, and Graphene Grey.
Powering the GS3 Emzoom is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 177 PS at 5,500 rpm and 270 Nm of torque at 1,400 rpm. With a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels, the SUV boasts a fuel consumption rating of 5.9 litres/100 km.
WTC Automotif has confirmed that the GS3 Emzoom will be locally assembled (CKD) at the Tan Chong Motor Assemblies (TCMA) plant in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur. It is expected to roll out from the plant in the second quarter of this year.
The company has also shared that the first GAC showroom will open its doors in Petaling Jaya in February 2024, followed by five more showrooms in Glenmarie, Cyberjaya, Seremban, Johor Bahru, and Pulau Pinang in the first half of this year.
