BMW Motorrad Malaysia today launched the 2025 model year BMW C400 X and C400 GT, featuring technical improvements as well as new features, colours, and accessories.
The core of the C400 X and C400 GT remains unchanged, meaning both are still powered by a 350 cc single-cylinder engine capable of producing 34 hp at 7,500 rpm and 35 Nm at 5,750 rpm. It is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that promises smooth and responsive performance.
That being said, both mid-sized premium scooters are now equipped with ABS Pro as standard, ensuring optimum safety even when braking at a lean angle.
Meanwhile, the Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) function linked to the ABS Pro provides sensitive response, as well as high braking and driving stability with the best possible deceleration even when cornering.
Also included are Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR). The former offers even more safety when accelerating at a lean angle or in slippery road conditions, while the latter prevents unstable riding conditions that can occur during coasting or abrupt throttle reduction.
Now, on to connectivity. The C400 X features a 6.5-inch TFT display along with the BMW Motorrad Connected app, allowing the display to be linked to the multi-controller on the left handlebar.
The C400 GT, on the other hand, boasts a 10.25-inch TFT display as part of the Connectivity Pro package, offering split-screen functionality and map navigation.
Both models also come with navigation preparation as an option, allowing riders to easily integrate the BMW Motorrad Connected Ride Navigator or Connected Ride Cradle for enhanced navigation capabilities.
In addition to the equipment, BMW Motorrad has also improved practicality on both models. The C400 X now provides an additional 3 liters of storage under the seat, while the C400 GT offers up to 12 liters of additional storage, including front pockets. The Gran Turismo version is also equipped with a manually adjustable windshield.
A luggage gird is provided as standard on both the X and GT but customers can also opt for a 43.5-litre storage box as an additional accessory, which not only provides 13.5-litres more volume than before but offers a 10 kg payload compared to the previous 5 kg.
The new top case also features electrification, in the form of interior lighting and a USB charging port. Other new features include keyless ride and Headlight Pro on the X.
On top of that, the C400 X is now available in a Rugged variant, featuring a Kalamata metallic matte body colour, red and black seating, red rims, and off-road tyres. This version also comes with footboard inlays, golden front brake calipers and heavily tinted windshield.
The C400 GT, meanwhile, is offered in an Exclusive variant with a Diamond White metallic body, golden rims, seat seam/embroidery in rim colour, floor lighting or footboard inlays, golden front brake calipers and slightly tinted windshield.
The retail price (on the road, with BMW Motorrad Malaysia’s all-new 3-year warranty and 3-year roadside assistance programmes, without insurance) is RM47,500 for the C400 X and RM53,500 for the C400 GT.
This year is a special one for Valentino Rossi as on February 16, the MotoGP legend, who is currently a works driver for BMW M, celebrated his 46th birthday.
The number 46 is a big deal for the nine-time world champion. So to mark the occasion, BMW introduced the exclusive M4 CS Edition VR46, designed by The Doctor himself. It is available in two versions, Sport and Style, with each version limited to only 46 units.
What sets the M4 CS Edition VR46 apart from the standard version? First and foremost, it features BMW Individual paint inspired by Rossi’s preferred tones and expressive visual style.
The Sport version comes in Marina Bay Blue metallic with a large ’46’ in Tanzanite Blue metallic, while the Style differs slightly, with a body in Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic and the ’46’ in Frozen Marina Bay Blue.
Of course, Rossi is not Rossi without his signature bright yellow hue. On this car, the colour can be found on the grille outline, one of the V spokes in the forged M light-alloy wheels, the brake calipers, and over the door frames of the “Sport” variant. The carbon fibre roof is adorned with the VR46 logo and Rossi’s signature, also in the same yellow.
The use of yellow doesn’t stop there. The interior, predominantly Night Blue, is highlighted with Sao Paulo Yellow trim on the M Carbon bucket seats. The steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara with, you guessed it, yellow stitching and a yellow centre marker.
Finally, each M4 CS Edition VR46 comes with a production serial badge on the carbon-fibre centre console.
There are no mechanical upgrades, as the M4 CS is already speedy enough. Under the bonnet is a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine tuned to produce a healthy 550 PS and 650 Nm.
With an eight-speed Steptronic transmission driving all four wheels via the M xDrive all-wheel drive system, the M4 CS can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 302 km/h with the standard M Driver’s Package.
Prices have not been disclosed, but whatever the cost, it promises to be well worth it. This is because all 92 individuals who are lucky enough to be able to purchase one will be invited to take part a very special two-day experience in Italy.
On the first day, customers will enjoy a BBQ with Rossi at the VR46 Motor Ranch in Tavullia, while on the second day, they will be taken to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli for the BMW M Driving Experience, where they can drive the latest BMW M models.
BMW Group Malaysia has announced the official prices for two new locally assembled models, the BMW 530i M Sport and the MINI Countryman S ALL4.
According to the company, both models are now available at all authorised BMW and MINI dealers nationwide.
BMW 530i M Sport
Introduced in Malaysia last January, the 530i M Sport is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine paired with a 48V mild hybrid system.
This combination produces a total power output of 258 PS and 400 Nm, which is transmitted to the rear wheels through an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. This enables the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h.
Standard equipment includes the BMW Iconic Glow package on the kidney grille, 20-inch M light alloy wheels in star spoke style 938M, adaptive LED headlights, an M leather steering wheel, and a curved display featuring a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen.
The on-the-road price (excluding insurance) for the 530i M Sport CKD starts at RM399,800 or RM430,100 with the BMW Service and Repair Inclusive package.
MINI Countryman S ALL4
Meanwhile, the MINI Countryman S ALL4 comes equipped with LED headlights with a high-beam assistant and three adjustable light signatures, 20-inch Windmill Spoke wheels in two-tone, and LED taillights – also featuring three unique light signatures.
Like the Countryman SE ALL4 launched last year, the interior of this model also comes furnished with the Favoured Trim, which includes surfaces made with two-tone recycled polyester fabric through an in-house knitting process.
Powering the Countryman S ALL4 is a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine that produces 204 hp and 300 Nm of torque. With an eight-speed automatic transmission and ALL4 all-wheel-drive system, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 228 km/h.
The Countryman S ALL4 is priced at RM258,888. If buyers opt for the extended warranty and service package, the price rises to RM269,288.
Back in mid-2022, BMW M unveiled the M3 Touring, making it the brand’s first-ever wagon variant of the M3. This was followed by the introduction of the most hardcore variant in its line-up: the M3 CS sedan.
Now, the division has taken the covers off the new M3 CS Touring, which is essentially a fusion of both models.
In other words, the latest weapon from the Munich-based outfit offers the thrilling high performance of the M3 CS sedan (and M4 CS) in a more practical form.
This means that, like the two aforementioned models, the M3 CS Touring is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six engine, which has been tuned to deliver a whopping 550 PS at 6,250 rpm and 650 Nm of torque from 2,750 rpm to 5,950 rpm.
When compared to the facelifted version of the M3 Touring (Life Cycle Impulse or LCI in BMW lingo), the wagon is blessed with an additional 20 PS of power.
The combination of an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and M xDrive all-wheel drive enables the 1,850 kg car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a 3.5 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in just 11.7 seconds.
Its top speed is electronically limited to 300 km/h, thanks to the standard M Driver’s Package.
Speaking of weight, BMW says it managed to shed around 15 kg by using components made from carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP), including the bonnet, splitter, air intakes, side mirrors, diffuser, bucket seats, and steering wheel.
Despite sharing the same body type as the M3 Touring, the CS variant stands out with a more aggressive body kit, yellow daytime running lights, red accents on the grille and spoiler, and lightweight double-spoke alloy wheels measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear.
The colour palette for this one is limited to four options, namely British Racing Green, Laguna Seca Blue, Sapphire Black, and Frozen Solid White. Regardless of the chosen hue, the roof and spoiler are finished in striking gloss black.
Inside, in addition to the aforementioned bucket seats, the interior is distinguished by a flat-bottom steering wheel featuring a red 12 o’clock marker and a ‘CS’ logo on the centre console.
BMW has not disclosed the production numbers for the M3 CS Touring, but like the sedan variant, it is expected to be limited to fewer than 2,000 units.
BMW Group Malaysia has further expanded its range of Motorrad models with the launch of the BMW R12, priced at RM123,000.
The motorcycle showcases a vintage-inspired exterior that houses a slew of modern riding technologies.
For the Malaysian market, the R12 is available in Aventurin Red Metallic, further accentuated by lightweight alloy cast wheels, a stainless-steel exhaust system, and a sleek, open shaft drive to complete the look.
The R12 features LED headlight and taillights, combined with Adaptive Headlight Prosystem and Dynamic Brake Lights, ensuring maximum visibility day or night.
At its core lies the heart of the R12 – a 1,170cc water-cooled two-cylinder four-stroke R boxer engine with four valves per cylinder, along with a six-speed gearbox.
The engine is capable of producing 95 hp at 6,500 rpm and 110 Nm at 6,000 rpm, allowing the R12 to achieve a top speed of 200 km/h.
In terms of electronics, the R12 offers a Rock & Roll riding mode, as well as features such as Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), ABS Pro with optimised banking angle, and Gear Shift Assistant Pro.
It also comes standard with a Comfort Package that includes features like Cruise Control, Hillstart Control, Gear Shift Assistant Pro and heated grips, all engineered for long-distance cruising with comfort.
Also included as standard are the Keyless Ride system, a USB charging port, and Connected Ride Control for an intuitive and connected riding experience.
Purists, look away now, as we are about to show a BMW 8 Series (E31) that may well induce depression and rob you of sleep at night.
Indeed, this radioactive yellow contraption donning a rather unflattering body kit started life as a 1990 850i Coupe. And believe it or not, it could be yours for just £14,995 (RM84,715).
However, the Signature Motor Company’s website, where this car is advertised, fails to provide any crucial details regarding its ownership history or even mileage.
According to the company, this is a standard 850i featuring a 5.0-litre V12 engine capable of producing 296 hp. Produced from 1990 to 1994, the 850i was available with either a four-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission – this particular unit has the manual.
There’s no denying that a V12 engine paired with a manual transmission is a tantalising combination for car enthusiasts. However, in this case, the ghastly body kit is simply too hideous to ignore.
As you can see, the overly angular design of the front and rear bumpers, combined with the profusion of holes mar the E31’s timeless appeal. To make matters worse, the massive rear spoiler and chrome rims clash horrendously with the car’s overall shape.
Fortunately, the vehicle can still be identified by its iconic kidney grille and pop-up headlights at the front. However, from the rear, you would be hard-pressed to recognise it as an E31, as the original lights have been replaced with six round lamps sourced from a cheap accessory shop.
As might be expected, the interior has been ‘tainted’ with faux leather upholstery in black and yellow, along with aftermarket steering wheel and gear knob. The unfortunate soul who purchases this car will likely need to fork out a lot moolah to restore it to its former glory.
BMW Group Malaysia has launched its expanded BMW Group regional parts distribution centre in conjunction with the celebration of the facility’s 20th anniversary.
First established at Port Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), Gelang Patah in 2004, the regional parts distribution centre relocated to its current state-of-the-art facility in the Free Industrial Zone of the Senai International Airport, Johor Bahru, in 2016.
As one of the largest BMW facilities of its kind in the Asia Pacific region, the current BMW Group regional parts distribution centre originally spanned 45,000 square metres of warehouse space.
With the completion of its new expansion, the facility now spans a remarkable 65,000 square metres, further solidifying the BMW Group’s commitment to operational excellence in the region and investments in the country.
The recent expansion of the BMW Group regional parts distribution centre introduces several notable improvements, including a purpose-built high voltage (HV) battery storage area and a modern very narrow aisle (VNA) racking system.
The facility’s two-story configuration provides opportunities for future expansion, while the integration of a solar panel roof supports BMW Group’s broader sustainability initiatives.
Since its establishment at the Free Industrial Zone of the Senai International Airport in Johor Bahru, the facility has demonstrated sustained growth in its annual turnover, growing its business capabilities from EUR 141 million (RM661 million) in 2017 to EUR 277 million (RM1.3 billion) in 2023, over 97% and almost double from when the facility first began operations.
According to BMW Group Malaysia, the facility handles over 100,000 lines of inventory in and out monthly, maintaining around 90% service level to over 20 diverse markets in the region, reflecting its robust capability of meeting varying market requirements.
The facility manages on stock nearly 52,000-part numbers, around 30 of which are high voltage batteries, while maintaining an on-time picking and packing rate of over 99% and a rate of 99.5% on items delivered in excellent condition.
15 units of 40-foot containers to BMW Group’s sea freight markets are dispatched weekly, while 33,000 cubic metres of airfreight delivery are made each week. Closer to home, the facility manages 42 trucks for outbound deliveries to Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand each week.
Do you remember the video game Need For Speed: Most Wanted, released in 2005?
Whether you realize it or not, the iconic image of the BMW M3 GTR has haunted us for almost 20 years, and now that model has been brought to life by BMW!
In collaboration with Electronic Arts, BMW has recreated the legendary M3 GTR and will showcase it at the BMW Welt Museum in Munich from November 27, 2024, to January 6, 2025.
The M3 GTR for NFS: Most Wanted is a real racing machine based on the M3 GTR E46, number #42, which was driven by Jörg Müller and J.J. Lehto for the BMW Motorsport team in 2001. It features a livery reminiscent of the hero car from the video game.
For racing purposes, BMW developed a V8 4.0-liter engine (code P60B40) capable of generating 444 hp.
The homologation laws in effect at the time led BMW to produce 10 units of the M3 GTR Strassenversion— the road-legal version.
With the same engine, the BMW M3 GTR Strassenversion delivered reduced power of 380 hp and was paired with a more conventional manual transmission.
This M3 GTR race car later inspired the design of the livery seen on the BMW GTR in NFS: Most Wanted, which became popular among video game fans in 2005.
You can actually ‘drive’ this machine by updating the Need For Speed: Unbound Vol. 9 game, which also features several new vehicle models, including the BMW S1000RR motorcycle.
The new BMW M5 Touring, which was introduced to the world last August, is among the heaviest cars on the market right now, weighing in at approximately 2,508 kg.
In response, BMW has unveiled a range of M Performance Parts accessories, featuring various components made from carbon fibre and high-tech fibre composite material called aramid.
While the exact weight reduction is undisclosed, the kit does enhance the M5 Touring’s aggressive overall look, complementing its supercar-like performance.
It begins at the front, where the M5 Touring receives a carbon fibre splitter that accentuates the central air intake in the bumper.
At the rear, there’s a carbon fibre diffuser that’s divided into two sections, which can be paired with M Performance tailpipe trims for an even more striking visual impact.
Additionally, the M Performance Parts kit includes side decals in Frozen Black and carbon fibre sill extensions, giving the wagon an even wider stance.
For a more menacing look, customers can also opt for M exterior mirror caps in carbon fibre and the aramid M Performance aerial cover.
Other offerings include a carbon fibre fuel cap that “ turns every refuel into a small pit stop,” M Performance floor mats with leather-look edging, an Alcantara and leather key fob cover, and M Performance tyre bags that can be used for protection and storage.
Unfortunately, these M Performance Parts do not equate to increased performance. But it’s probably the last thing it needs as the M5 Touring is already a very potent car thanks to its 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 hybrid engine that generates 717 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque.
Tesla is no longer the dominant force in the electric vehicle segment, at least in the European continent.
Based on data obtained from JATO Dynamics, BMW has managed to sell a total of 14,869 EVs throughout July 2024.
In comparison, Tesla has sold a total of 14,561 units for the same period.
Despite the small difference, this indicates that the German manufacturer is now able to surpass Tesla’s EV sales, even while still offering options for petrol and hybrid vehicles to consumers.
JATO Dynamics analysis shows a decline in sales performance for two of Tesla’s crucial models (Model Y and Model 3) last month, with Model Y sales decreasing by 16 percent to 9,544 units, and Model 3 dropping by 17 percent to 4,694 units.
Tesla may still take pride in the fact that the Model Y remains the best-selling EV, surpassing the Volvo EX30 (6,573 units) and the Volkswagen ID.4 (5,295 units).
Despite holding the title for the best-selling EV, these numbers are still significantly behind the sales performance of the best-selling models in Europe, with the Dacia Sandero leading the way in July with 22,398 units sold, followed by the Volkswagen T-Roc (19,254 units) and the Toyota Yaris Cross (17,314 units).
Like its main rival from Stuttgart, BMW has been actively expanding its range of electric vehicles in Malaysia.
After launching models such as the i5, i7, and iX1, to name a few, BMW Malaysia introduced the latest addition to the BMW i series, the iX2 back in May this year. It is offered in the single xDrive30 M Sport variant at a price of RM 297,000.
So what exactly is the iX2?
Just as the iX1 is the electric version of the X1, the iX2 is essentially an electrically driven X2. The difference between the iX1 and iX2 lies mostly in the shape and design, the latter looking almost eccentric thanks to a more angular design approach and a coupe-style roof.
Not only that, it also gains the Iconic Glow illuminated grille, larger wheels (20 vs 19 inches), and the M High-Gloss Shadowline package with extended content that brings black accents to the radiator grille, tailgate logo, and side mirrors.
However, under the stylish skin, the iX2 xDrive30 shares the same dual-motor electric powertrain as the iX1 xDrive30, which generates a total output of 313 PS (with boost) and 494 Nm.
On paper, the difference in performance between the two are not exactly night and day. The iX2 is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, while the iX1 does it in 5.7 seconds.
Despite using the same 66.5 kWh battery, the iX2 offers a longer WLTP driving range of 449 km compared to 438 km by the iX1. 11 km may not sound much, but it can make a big difference, especially when the range anxiety kicks in as the battery runs low.
So, for a price difference of almost RM12,000, you get a more stylish EV with a longer driving range. Is it worth it to spend the extra buck on the iX2?
For this writer, it heavily depends on the individual taste. Those who are more conventional and not exactly risk-takers will choose the iX1, while those who like to be distinct and stand out more will be drawn towards the iX2.
Folks who pick the iX2 will not only appreciate its voguish exterior but also take a fancy to its its modern and sophisticated cabin. Almost every touchable surface feels luxurious and premium, as they should.
The first thing that catches attention is the large curved display that actually houses two displays, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system.
The BMW Operating System 9 provides bright, easy-to-read graphics and an intuitive, user-friendly interface, but there are some functions that need some ‘digging’ to be accessed. The infotainment system is commendable, but this writer personally prefers the MBUX.
In terms of comfort and practicality, the cabin of the so-called Sport Activity Coupe is comfortable enough for four passengers. The front seats are highly adjustable and have thigh support, while the rear seats are not too upright and offer ample head and legroom.
There is space for a fifth passenger, but they might not feel comfortable especially on long journeys because the middle seat is rather small.
To say the iX2 is spacious might be a little far-fetched but there is plenty of storage space in the cabin. Each door has a sizeable storage area and cup holder, while under the centre console, there is another decent-sized space for storing items like a wallet.
There is also a storage space located under the armrest, but it is only meant for small, flat objects like access cards.
In addition to USB Type C charging ports, passengers can charge their smartphone on the wireless charging tray that has a bar to hold the phone in place. That’s clever.
At the back, the iX2 offers a larger boot (525 litres) compared to the iX1, but due to its sloping roofline, fitting tall items can be a bit challenging.
But if you’re thinking of weekend trips with the family, the boot has enough space and can easily accommodate at least three or four luggages. The car is also suitable for your shopping trips to Ikea as the rear seats can be folded flat in a 40:20:40 configuration.
The driving character shown by the iX2 is as expected from a premium EV – it’s fast, comfortable on smooth roads, and quiet.
Perhaps it’s not all that silent seeing hard acceleration is accompanied by BMW’s IconicSound synthesised sound effect developed in collaboration with renowned composer Hans Zimmer. However, in terms of NVH, it is all good in the iX2.
Driving an EV can be a bit boring after a while so to make things more interesting, BMW has included a boost pedal that provides an additional push for 10 seconds. Though honestly, the output provided by the two-motor setup is good enough for most daily driving situations.
In addition, the iX2 can help reduce driver fatigue through the standard Driving Assistant Plus system, which includes features such as Lane Control Assistant, Automatic Speed Limit Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and more.
During the four days of driving, this writer recorded an energy consumption level of around 15 to 16 kWh per 100 km with a normal driving style, involving 70% city driving and 30% highway driving.
Needless to say, achieving the claimed driving range is no easy feat, but with the iX2, you can at least extend the range by using the regenerative braking system that offers four modes, including Adaptive.
Navigating through winding roads is not a problem for this car because its suspension system is more on the firm side of things, meaning it excels in eliminating body roll. But sometimes you do feel that the weight of the battery is taking a toll on it its handling.
Despite its firmness, the suspension system shows it can be quite comfortable for highway driving. However, it is not too keen to be driven on bumpy and uneven roads in urban areas. Hitting a pothole will send a jolt to the entire car.
In the city, the iX2 is overall easy to drive. That being said, you have to be mindful when reversing as the rear window is quite small due to to the sloping roofline. Thankfully, the car comes with a 360-degree camera.
If that’s not enough, you can also make use of the Reversing Assistant and Lateral Parking Aid for easier parking maneuvers.
Conclusion
Does the iX2 xDrive30 M Sport make sense in the current market? Honestly, at a price of nearly RM300,000, you could actually get another EV that offers high power and a longer range, like the Volvo C40.
However, the iX2 has its own unique appeal. Looks are subjective but the iX2 does have a stronger visual impact than its closest competitors, and it handles really well on the road – probably much better than the Swedish EV or the Mercedes-Benz EQA. And that’s good enough for this writer.
TRUE, design is subjective, but if you ask this writer, the G90 BMW M5 seems somewhat lackluster despite having a powerful hybrid beating heart that can produce a whopping 717 hp and 1,000 Nm.
Fortunately for future owners out there, BMW has introduced a host of M Performance Parts to emphasise the athletic side and enhance the aerodynamics of the high-performance sedan.
According to the automaker, the exterior components of M Performance Parts are made from weight-saving, high-tech carbon fibre. These include the front splitter and rear diffuser – both divided into two sections.
Also included are sill extensions, a rear spoiler, and tailpipe trims made from a titanium/carbon fibre mix and adorned with embossed M5 logos.
Not stopping there, BMW also offers a carbon fibre fuel tank cap and Frozen Black side decals which the automaker claim can withstand commercial car washes. M Performance light-alloy wheels will be offered from summer 2025.
Interestingly, customers can also get M Performance tyre bags. With a logo in BMW M colours and a graphic indicating the wheel position, these bags definitely scream motorsport.
As for the interior, not much is offered save for M Performance floor mats featuring decorative stitching in contrasting colours and M Performance badging, as well as a key case wrapped in black fine-grain nappa leather.
With a 4.4-litre biturbo V8 engine assisted by a hybrid system, an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission, and the xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the M5 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.
It may sound impressive, but the new generation car is actually 0.2 seconds slower than the F90 M5 due to its weight, which nearly reaches 2.5 tonnes.
However, unlike previous iterations, the latest M5 can now travel up to 69 km without using a drop of fuel thanks to an 18.6 kWh battery pack.
IAN Cameron, the designer of BMW and Rolls-Royce, was tragically murdered at his residence in Bavaria on 12th of July. He was 74 years old. His wife, Verena Kloose, managed to escape from the house and notify the authorities, but the police were unable to apprehend the suspect.
“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the news about our former Rolls-Royce designer. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during these difficult hours,” said BMW in a statement published by Automotive News.
CEO of Rolls-Royce, Chris Brownridge, said, “Ian played a significant role in shaping Rolls-Royce from when it was first acquired by BMW Group and moved to its Home at Goodwood, West Sussex.
“During Ian’s tenure, he led the design team for all Phantom family and Ghost models, creating thoroughly contemporary motor cars that remained sympathetic to the marque’s design lineage. My thoughts are with Ian’s family and friends during this very difficult time.”
Cameron was also part of the design team that created the BMW Z8. His most popular design was the Rolls-Royce Phantom 2003, which has influenced the design direction of every Rolls-Royce to this day. He was involved in the exterior design of the Range Rover L322 when the brand was under BMW.
However, Cameron’s career began at Pininfarina in 1975, and he had his own design firm after retiring from BMW. According to investigators, the murder suspect is believed to have been attempting to steal Cameron’s collection of luxury cars at his residence in Lake Ammersee.
The Times reported that the power to Cameron’s house was cut and the security cameras were disabled, so there is no recording of the attacker, but the German police are actively pursuing the case.

An American man has won a lawsuit worth USD 1.9 million (RM 8.95 million) after his finger was caught and severed by a door with a soft-close function.
Godwin Boateng, a self-employed software engineer, claimed that the soft-close door on his 2013 BMW X5 was not functioning properly and trapped the tip of his thumb.
In the incident in July 2016, Boateng was resting his finger on the driver’s door of the X5 with the door open about one foot. The door then closed, trapping his thumb until it severed. Surgeons were unable to reattach his finger.
Boateng sued BMW for an amount of USD 3 million (RM 14.13 million), stating that he would face a loss of USD 250,000 (RM 1.12 million) in annual income as a self-employed software engineer.
BMW inspected Boateng’s X5 and determined that there was no issue with the soft-close door. The German company also stated that the owner’s manual warned about the door and mentioned that the “the plaintiff understood since childhood not to put a finger or body part between a door and its frame while it is closing.”
The case gained traction, and earlier this month, the jury agreed to award compensation worth USD 1.9 million (RM 8.95 million). BMW was not found guilty for the faulty door, but the jury still believed the company was 100 percent at fault for Boateng’s thumb injury.
In the lawsuit claim, Boateng argued that BMW’s soft-close door is more dangerous compared to windows that use sensors to detect objects between the window and frame.
The lawsuit also included graphic descriptions of Boateng’s thumb injury, stating that the door not so “softly snapped through the flesh, nerves, blood vessels, tendons, musculature, and bone structure of Boateng’s right thumb.”
Following the assessment, BMW maintained that there was no damage to the vehicle or the functioning of the soft-close door.
However, it is uncertain whether they will make any design changes in the future.
Nearly 25 years ago, on September 1, 1999, the very first X5 (E53) rolled off BMW’s Spartanburg assembly plant, thus creating the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) category embraced by the automaker to this day.
To celebrate the momentous occasion, BMW is offering the X5 Silver Anniversary Edition, a limited-edition model based on the G05 X5 xDrive40i that features off-road-focused upgrades.
Starting with the exterior, the X5 Silver Anniversary Edition comes in the Lime Rock Grey Metallic paint picked straight from the BMW Individual catalogue
The classy shade is complemented by the Extended Shadowline Trim, which includes dark-coloured trims on the window surrounds, roof rails, fender mounted Air Breathers, and the standard illuminated kidney grille.

What makes the X5 Silver Anniversary Edition more appealing is the inclusion of the xOffroad package, which is not offered on any other current BMW X model.
Said package includes xSnow, xSand, xGravel, and xRocks driving modes, which function to adjust the vehicle’s ride height, transmission shift strategy, throttle mapping, traction control, and other parameters accordingly.
Bundled together in the package are 2-axle air suspension for increased ground clearance, a mechanical rear differential lock, and underbody protection plates.
There is also a special xOffroad View in the central display that informs the driver about ground clearance, roll tendency, and the inclination or downhill gradient of the terrai. Additionally, an external camera provides views of the terrain from all angles outside the vehicle at speeds below 35 km/h.
BMW also provides a roof rack system, luggage compartment mat, and all-weather floor mats are also included. Customers will also be offered a discount on more aggressive General Grabber All-Terrain tyres purchased and installed at their dealer.
The X5 Silver Anniversary Edition will be limited to just 1,000 units in the United States, with prices starting at $79,900 (RM376,074).
BMW has introduced the fourth-generation X3 known by the codename G45. Replacing the previous G01 model, Munich’s latest Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) showcases a more prominent design, an upgraded chassis, and various new technologies.
Here’s what you need to know about the new X3:
Larger footprint
The X3 G45 measures 4,755 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,660 mm in height, making it 34 mm longer, 29 mm wider, and 25 mm lower than the model it replaces. The wheelbase has also increased by 1 mm to 2,865 mm.
New design language
BMW claims the new design language featured on the X3 gives it an almost monolithic overall appearance. This is further accentuated by a new structure for the grille, as well as L-shaped lighting elements for daytime running lights, side lights, and turn signals.
There are nine colorus available for the new X3, with one being soild and the rest metallic, including Dune Grey. Models produced at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg will additionally be available with BMW Individual paint finishes.

High-tech interior

For infotainment, it employs the latest BMW iDrive with QuickSelect powered by BMW Operating System 9. The operating system also brings selection of additional digital services, which can be made available over the air.

The X3 is available in mild hybrid (20 xDrive, 20d xDrive, and M50 xDrive) and PHEV (30e xDrive) guises. The 20 xDrive variant is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine (190 PS/310 Nm), while the 20d xDrive has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine (197 PS/400 Nm).
The X3 M50 xDrive features a 3.0-litre inline-six mill with mild hybrid technology generating 381 PS and 540 Nm, while the X3 30e xDrive comes with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine and an electric motor producing a total system output of 299 PS and 450 Nm.
Market launch
The new X3 will be assembled at BMW Group plants in Spartanburg, USA, and Rosslyn, South Africa. Its market launch will get underway in Europe and the USA in the fourth quarter of 2024, progressing across numerous other markets from January 2025.

The selling price of the 218i Gran Coupe Final Edition starts from RM223,800. Customers who opt for the Service & Repair Inclusive package will have to fork out an additional RM20,600.
Meanwhile, the X3 sDrive20i Final Edition and X3 xDrive30e Final Edition are each sold at RM311,800 and RM357,800, respectively. The Service & Repair Inclusive package for both variants is available for RM26,700.
BMW enjoys showcasing their new cars at the Villa d’Este event. This year, they revealed the Skytop, a two-seater convertible that is said to be inspired by the Z8 and 503.
“BMW Concept Skytop is a unique model with an exotic design, following the tradition of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este,” said Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design.
“It offers a combination of dynamic and elegant driving at the highest level, following previous models such as the Z8 or BMW 503.”
The relationship between the Concept Skytop and the Z8 is quite evident. The slim taillights with a shark-like nose are a clear inspiration from the early 2000s roadster. The sculpted hood design, small front lights, and upright rear deck also remind us of the 503 from the 1950s.
BMW did not provide any details or performance specifications, but if guessed, it might use a 4.4-liter V8 engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive from the M8 Competition.
The theme, like the M8, continues to the interior. The dashboard seems to be taken directly from the 8-Series, with a digital instrument display, infotainment, and a central console as we usually see.
But the unique roll bar behind the seats looks truly exceptional for this concept, featuring a power window. The roof is also with a two-part mechanism that can be manually removed and stored in the trunk.

BMW F 900 GS (RM88,500)
The new BMW F 900 GS unveils an array of innovative features and technologies tailored for the local market. One contributing factor is a weight reduction of 14 kg, bringing the current total weight to only 219 kg.
The displacement of its parallel-twin engine has also been increased from 853 cc to 895 cc. It generates 105 hp at 8,500 rpm and 93 Nm at 6,750 rpm, enough to allow the the F 900 GS to accelerate to a top speed of over 200 km/h.
The bike is fitted with the Enduro Pro Package, which includes a fully adjustable titanium nitride-coated upside-down telescopic forks, fully adjustable central spring strut, sport frame, black handlebar, handlebar riser, as well as an M-Endurance chain.

BMW Malaysia has officially unveiled the latest additions to their fleet of premium sporty sedans, the all-new BMW i5 M60 xDrive and the new locally assembled 520i at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024.
BMW i5 M60 xDrive (RM480,000 est.)
The second i5 variant to be introduced here following the eDrive40, the i5 M60 xDrive being the sportier variant features two electric motors that drive all four wheels and deliver a total system output of 601 hp and 795 Nm.
With such power at its disposal, the i5 M60 xDrive accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.8 seconds before reaching a top speed of 230 km/h.
Located in the underbody, the 83.9-kWh battery offers a range of up to 516 km based on the WLTP cycle.
Charging the battery from 0 to 80% state of charge takes 34 minutes via 205 kW DC fast charging, while a full charge using the 22 kW AC charging requires 4 hours and 15 minutes.
Styling-wise, the i5 M60 comes with the M Performance kidney grille accentuated by the BMW Iconic Glow, 21-inch aerodynamic wheels from the BMW individual line, as well as a host of M Sport Pro parts, including the M rear spoiler, M Lights Shadowline, M High Gloss Shadowline, and M Sport brakes in red high gloss.

There’s also the illuminated BMW Interaction Bar that enhances driving experience by simplifying control of the air conditioning and other functions.
As for driver assistance systems, the 520i is fitted with Active Cruise Control, Steering and Lane Control Assistant, to name a few.
